Sr Hardware Design Engineer

The Sr Hardware Designer (Systems) contractor role is an onsite position in Ottawa, ON, with potential travel to Montreal or Toronto for verification testing. In this role, you will contribute to the development of a custom embedded computing system for a military application. Your responsibilities will include supporting the design, verification, and deployment-to-manufacturing of new hardware and system designs, enhancing and maintaining existing systems, analyzing requirements to develop solutions, generating accurate user and design documentation, and creating, reviewing, and executing verification test plans. You will collaborate with a dynamic engineering team to advance cutting-edge embedded systems technology.

Responsibilities:

• Support design, verification, and deployment-to-manufacturing of hardware and system designs.
• Enhance and maintain existing systems.
• Analyze requirements to research and develop solutions.
• Generate accurate user and design documentation.
• Create, review, and execute verification test plans.
• Collaborate with a dynamic engineering team to advance embedded systems technology.

Essential Skills:

• 5+ years of experience in hardware/circuit testing.
• Experience with military standards such as MIL-STD-461.
• Proficiency in Python and/or other automation and scripting tools.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Design engineering expertise.
• Must be CGP cleared.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience with hardware design.
• Driven and motivated self-starter.
• Strong understanding of electronics and engineering principles.
• Linux and Windows power user proficiency.

Work Environment:

This position requires onsite presence in Ottawa, 5 days a week, with core working hours from 9 AM to 4 PM. The workday is 8 hours long, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Candidates must be willing to potentially travel to Montreal or Toronto for compliance testing, staying 2-3 weeks out of town if labs are unavailable in Ottawa. Hotel costs will be covered.
