Sr Electrical Engineer

As a Sr Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing state-of-the-art products for the utility inspection market, utilizing embedded vision systems to create cutting-edge, complex designs. You will work within a cross-functional organization to design, debug, and test prototype components and circuit card assemblies. These designs integrate motor control, analog, digital, and high-speed circuitry.

In addition to technical responsibilities, Sr Engineers may lead project teams, mentor other engineers, drive engineering-wide process improvements, write standards as subject matter experts, and act as product owners.

This role involves occasional travel and requires collaboration with both commercial and scientific teams. You must be capable of high-level, project-oriented system design and analysis, managing multiple deliverables across planning, design, implementation, testing, documentation, validation, and support.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Development:

• Design and layout complex circuitry including brushed and brushless (BLDC) motor controls.
• Develop electronic circuits, subsystems, and systems involving analog, digital, microprocessor, high-voltage/power, and motor control circuitry.
• Perform schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Write test plans and conduct evaluation testing during the design process.
• Interface electronic components with mechanical systems.

Technical Support & Analysis:

• Provide support for existing products including quality assessment, failure analysis, and product improvement.

Project Management & Leadership:

• Serve as technical lead and point of contact for projects.
• Prepare briefings for senior management and assist in resolving project-specific issues.
• Review and approve subcontractor plans including specifications, schedules, risk management, and budgets.
• Lead project teams and provide direction to other engineers.
• Drive engineering-wide process improvements and lead NPI/NPD efforts.
• Act as product owner and write standards as a subject matter expert.

Documentation & Reporting:

• Write manufacturing and test procedures and reports.
• Support product development and maintenance activities.
• Provide technical input for sales and marketing proposals.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

General Engineering:

• Design and layout of multilayer mixed-signal PCBs (up to 8 layers) using Altium Designer or equivalent.
• Hand soldering and rework for prototyping and troubleshooting.
• Power supply design for analog/digital circuitry with low noise and moderate bandwidth.
• Experience with camera vision systems and optical sources (lamps, lasers, LEDs).
• Familiarity with mechanical CAD tools (Inventor or SolidWorks).

Digital Design:

• Expertise in digital MEMS sensors (IMU, INU, temperature, pressure, humidity).
• Experience with data interfaces: PCIe, USB 3.x, Ethernet, RS-232/485, I2C, SPI.
• Motion control design for DC brushed/brushless motors.
• ARM PCB layout and high-speed board design.
• Firmware development in C/C++ for microcontrollers/DSPs.
• FPGA design in VHDL, including simulation and implementation.

Analog Design:

• Design of low-noise analog signal processing circuits.
• Implementation of 12–18 bit ADCs up to 10 MHz.
• Signal conditioning for analog signals up to 25 MHz.

Certifications & Compliance:

• Knowledge of grounding, EMI reduction, and noise mitigation techniques.
• Experience designing for CE, FCC, TUV, UKCA, and other certifying bodies.
• Design for manufacturability and serviceability.

Tools & Analysis:

• Familiarity with data analysis tools such as MATLAB and Mathcad.

Experience Level

Expert Level – Candidates should have significant industry experience or equivalent qualifications in an applicable field.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $67.00/hr.
