Restraints Engineer
As a Restraints Engineer, you will work directly with a Full Service Supplier to develop and release safety restraint components, primarily airbags, and possibly seat belts. You will engage in all stages of part development, from initial CAD drawings to studio surface development, prototyping, testing, feasibility, tooling, manufacturing, and launch. You will lead the development and execution of product verification plans and engineering sign-off, ensuring that systems meet all relevant corporate requirements and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Interact with various internal teams such as Program Management, Costing, Tooling, Systems, and Vehicle Integration to represent parts throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Ensure timelines are met for the entire three-year product development lifecycle.
- Attend supplier manufacturing sites and travel to assembly for launch to assist in initial builds.
- Work closely with testing and validation engineering to ensure components meet client requirements.
- Be responsible for a specific component, such as next-generation steering wheel airbags, and oversee its program.
- Handle prototype parts and be involved in testing and validation stages.
- Manage pressures from internal and external groups regarding cost, weight, functionality, manufacturability, and sizing of components.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with airbags or restraints (seat belts).
- Engineering degree required.
- Experience in completing a full cradle-to-grave program at least once.
- Expertise in design and release processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in Catia is an advantage.
- Experience with various automotive restraint systems.
- Ability to handle complex engineering projects.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, Michigan.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $52.00/hr.
