Research Engineering Assistant
We are seeking an experienced Research Engineering Assistant to join our nonclinical biomedical engineering laboratory. The ideal candidate will possess advanced expertise in electromechanical design and control for physiological systems. As part of the Preclinical Research team, this role is responsible for the design, development, execution, and interpretation of bioreactor studies to evaluate the safety and performance of medical devices.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and maintain bioreactor experiments to support ongoing research projects.
- Design, develop, and optimize automatic feedback control algorithms for ex-vivo tissue and organ culture systems.
- Design and rapid prototyping of custom parts and fixtures using 3D modeling and printing.
- Collaborate in system architecture planning, implementation, and iterative improvement for laboratory setups.
- Integrate biological and engineering workflows to ensure seamless data collection and experiment execution.
- Collect, store, and analyze experimental data with scientific rigor; prepare detailed technical reports; and present findings clearly to the research team in alignment with project and quality standards.
- Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment in compliance with institutional safety standards.
Essential Skills
- Advanced expertise in electromechanical design and control for physiological systems.
- LabView proficiency.
- SolidWorks proficiency.
- Experience in ex vivo bioreactor design and testing.
- 3D solid modeling and printing experience.
- Ability to create feedback control regulations and algorithms.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
- In-depth knowledge of the electromechanical engineering discipline (e.g., mechatronics, robotics, automation, etc.).
- Demonstrated expertise of 3D solid modeling and additive manufacturing.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, tissue types, and the dynamics of biological systems.
- Demonstrated success in non-animal models for medical device testing, including ex-vivo bioreactor design and implementation.
- Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Deep knowledge in the design and implementation of electromechanical systems for tissue and organ level testing of medical devices.
- Working knowledge of test systems for tissue engineering (cell culture level) applications.
- Comfortable with system design, prototyping, and iterative improvement processes.
- Strong data analysis skills using statistical and computational tools.
- Familiarity with biomedical device design controls.
- Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills to work across biology and engineering domains.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities with a research-driven mindset.
Work Environment
The position requires working onsite five days a week in a laboratory environment, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and equipment. The role offers a niche skillset and opportunity to gain unique experience with ex vivo testing.

This is a Contract position based out of Cincinnati, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
