Transmission Line Engineer (100% Remote)

Compensation: $120,000 - $150,000 (Negotiable based upon experience)

Position Overview

Seeking a skilled Transmission Line Engineer to support high-voltage transmission line projects typically ranging from 69 kV to 500 kV. This role spans the full project lifecycle—from conceptual design through construction—requiring strong technical expertise, coordination skills, and leadership capabilities. Candidates with Civil or Mechanical Engineering backgrounds are preferred, though Electrical Engineers with relevant experience will also be considered. Most projects will support PG&E.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and scopes of work for transmission line construction packages
  • Lead and coordinate design engineers and technical staff, ensuring quality, schedule, and technical accuracy
  • Review engineering studies, technical reports, and design deliverables
  • Coordinate with contractors, permitting agencies, survey teams, and internal disciplines
  • Provide construction and field support as required
  • Apply project management best practices related to engineering quality, safety, and execution
  • Contribute to multiple power delivery projects with opportunities to develop expertise in pole and tower design

Essential Skills & Experience

  • MUST HAVE PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC (PG&E) PROJECT EXPERIENCE
  • Self-motivated professional with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting project deadlines
  • Proven experience working collaboratively in team environments and supporting stakeholder expectations
  • Proficiency in transmission line design using the PLS software suite, including:
    • Route modeling and alignment
    • Plan and profile development
    • Structural analysis
  • Strong knowledge of conductors, hardware assemblies, structure detailing, and bills of material
  • Experience developing assembly, framing, loading, and design drawings for:
    • Wood
    • Concrete
    • Steel
    • FRP
    • Lattice structures
  • Familiarity with related electrical studies, including EMF, grounding, fault current, contamination, and clearance analysis
  • Experience interpreting geotechnical data for foundation design and embedment calculations
  • Ability to integrate survey and GIS data into PLS-CADD models
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, L-Pile, MFAD, and Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards, including ASCE, ACI, IEEE, NESC, RUS, and GO-95
  • Strong technical communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex engineering solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with lattice tower design

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $68.00/hr.
