Substation Engineer-Level 4 - Lead (15+ Years)
We are seeking an experienced Substation Engineer to lead and execute advanced engineering projects. This role involves performing engineering assignments of varied scope and complexity, with a focus on utility-scale solar, BESS, and power plant operations. The successful candidate will assist with project management, negotiations, performance tracking, and reporting, while ensuring designs meet project specifications, safety standards, and long-term performance and reliability goals.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-level oversight of engineering and project execution, negotiating technical and regulatory requirements, and influencing executive-level project decisions.
- Lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Optimize technical designs for energy infrastructure and act as the technical authority on engineering standards, practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide expertise in system design, grid optimization, and technical risk management.
- Work closely with customer leadership to guide engineering strategies, solve complex challenges, and ensure long-term infrastructure resilience.
- Manage substation projects from conception through construction and commissioning.
- Support engineering requirements and scope during the conceptual phase with the Development Group.
- Oversee training, due diligence, and technical oversight of external engineers for all assigned substation projects.
- Secure engineering consulting resources, develop scopes of work, and manage bid evaluations and awards.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to secure substation sites and ensure necessary updates, data, and permits.
- Source and contract geotechnical survey, engineering, and construction services, supporting the EC Cost Estimating Team.
- Ensure assigned EC substation projects are successful, representing EC's interests in meetings and briefings.
- Support Transmission Services during the review of interconnection documentation and ensure compliance with requirements.
- Manage project long lead major material orders to minimize risk of delays or budget overruns.
- Assist ISC with substation project SOW creation, review, approval, and preparation of shopping carts for engineering services and materials.
- Support EC Estimating with template updates via project feedback and technical support.
- Collaborate with project engineering resources to determine project priorities, work plans, and lines of demarcation.
- Ensure projects are efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely implemented in accordance with department processes, industry standards, and policies.
- Support project commissioning activities to meet corporate objectives.
- Support Legal in regulatory filings, depositions, and hearings.
- Collaborate with component OEMs to enhance or adapt their designs for better integration with company philosophies.
Essential Skills:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- 15 years of experience in planning, designing, and executing large-scale energy projects, including solar, BESS, wind, and hydrogen systems
- Professional Engineering (PE) certification preferred
- Expertise in electrical engineering, substation design, and protection & control
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in system integration and risk management
- Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards such as IEEE, NESC, ASCE
- Experience with project management and performance tracking

Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
