Reliability Test Engineer

This high-visibility role is part of a new molecular R&D instrument development group. We are looking for two Level 4 Engineers to join an early-stage team tasked with baselining and identifying failure modes on complex electromechanical diagnostic devices.

Responsibilities

• Propose testing approaches and determine applicable standards in a lead role with undefined testing landscape.
• Independently identify industry standards such as MIL STD 810, ASTM, and ISTA to author comprehensive test protocols.
• Design and analyze custom test fixtures using SolidWorks for various testing environments.
• Lead hands-on environmental and destructive testing, including thermal cycling, altitude, shock, vibration, and ingress protection.
• Perform preliminary mechanical and electrical investigations into failure modes and present technical findings directly to program leadership.

Essential Skills

• 10+ years of hands-on experience in hardware testing and reliability engineering.
• High proficiency in SolidWorks for designing and analyzing custom test fixtures.
• Extensive experience in environmental and destructive testing.
• Ability to perform preliminary root cause analysis on mechanical and electrical failure modes.
• Strong technical writing and presentation skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; a master's degree with 8+ years of experience is considered.
• Experience in medical device, automotive, aerospace, or defense industries is highly valued.
• Familiarity with programming languages like Lua scripting or LabVIEW is a plus.
• Knowledge of specialized testing such as EMC or EMI, and IP ingress testing for dust and water.
• Understanding of reliability statistics including HALT, HASS, or MTBF.

Work Environment

Join a small, collaborative R&D engineering team at the Salt Lake City campus. Expect a mix of hands-on bench testing in a lab environment and desk work for protocol development and data analysis. Enjoy a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, and flexible hours between 6:30 AM and 6:00 PM. The role is primarily on-site due to the hands-on nature of the work, with a casual dress code suitable for lab and shop floor activities. A laptop will be provided.

This is a Contract position based out of Salt Lake City, UT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58.00 - $75.00/hr.
