Embedded Engineer For Server Product Line

You will be embedded on-site at a supplier (non-client facility) to maximize throughput and ship rate for a new server product line. You'll partner with supplier technicians and client engineers to triage test/repair/debug issues in real time, optimize test/repair/diagnostic flows, and drive First-Pass Yield (FPY) and cycle-time improvements using data from test logs and factory systems. Daily work blends hands-on line support, data analysis (Excel/SQL), and tight cross-functional coordination.

The overall goal of this role is to maximize throughput / ship the most servers. Best estimates for time allocation:

  • 20% — meetings / standups / escalations
  • 30% — independent analysis (logs, failure paretos, cycle-time, WIP tracking)
  • 50% — collaborative floor work with supplier techs & client engineers

This role will be on-site at a supplier (non-client owned building). They will need to sync with other engineers that work for the client on overall program status and the tactical daily plan / top issues.

From there, their work may include gathering more information through:

  • Physical inspection on the factory floor
  • Reviewing logs, Excel data, etc. from their laptop

MUST HAVES:

  • BSME, BSIE, BSEE, or related engineering degree
  • 5 years of experience in an engineering and/or quality role. 3 years is acceptable if that time has been spent in a factory working directly on electronics. If they mostly spend time in an office and only visit factories, more experience is required.
  • Consumer electronics product manufacturing or repair experience with ownership in test/repair/diagnostic environments (e.g., consumer electronics, EMS/contract manufacturing, battery modules/packs, server or PCBA-based assemblies). Ownership should include driving FPY/throughput and reducing rework/scrap.
  • Demonstrated success improving test/repair cell performance (e.g., cycle-time reduction, FPY lift, bottleneck removal) with published KPIs/dashboards.
  • Strong factory-floor presence: comfortable leading standups, directing technicians, and resolving issues under ship pressure.
  • Data fluency: proficient with Excel (pivot tables, lookups, charts; comfort wrangling test logs) and building actionable trends.
  • Manufacturing/process engineering fundamentals: WIP flow, queueing, standard work, error-proofing, containment, understand how factory flows work and how to optimize them, and corrective action.
  • Communication & leadership: clear, concise escalation and cross-functional alignment with suppliers and internal engineering teams.

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Experience in server/data-center hardware (servers, motherboards/baseboards, backplanes, PSUs) or PCBA-centric assembly/test.
  • Exposure to test stations (e.g., functional/end-of-line, burn-in, AOI/X-ray) and collaboration with test engineering on limits/sequences.
  • Experience with SQL (querying MES/test databases) and/or Power BI for KPI automation.
  • Background in repair/remanufacture/RMA/refurbishment flows; authoring diagnostic & final repair standards.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 environments and driving CAPA/RCA to closure in electronics operations.
