Site Quality Engineer
This role offers an opportunity for a proactive, technically strong Site Quality Engineer to support a fast-moving, field-based construction environment on one of Canada's largest grid-scale battery-storage projects. You will take a highly hands-on role in the field, working closely with site leadership, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to maintain rigorous quality, safety, and execution standards across all phases of a large-scale construction project. You will independently drive quality processes, resolve issues in real time, and ensure that all work is completed in strict accordance with design, procedures, and schedule expectations. This position provides rare, high-impact exposure to utility-scale clean-energy infrastructure, including large-format LFP battery units, system integration, substation work, and commissioning activities within a provincially backed long-term reliability program.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily site quality activities across all construction disciplines in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
- Perform and oversee Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), including hold-point inspections, witness inspections, and multi-point inspection workflows.
- Verify that construction work consistently aligns with approved drawings, specifications, and procedures across civil, electrical, structural, and mechanical scopes.
- Identify quality issues in the field, document them accurately, and drive non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective actions through to full closure.
- Review and interpret construction drawings in civil, electrical, structural, and related disciplines, confirming that field execution matches design intent.
- Support field teams and subcontractors by providing technical clarification and procedural interpretation to ensure proper means, methods, and sequencing.
- Monitor construction methods to ensure activities follow appropriate construction practices and maintain compliance with project quality standards.
- Act as a key site-facing representative for quality matters, building trust through clear communication and professional client interaction.
- Work directly with subcontractors to resolve quality issues, communicate expectations, and maintain accountability for workmanship and documentation.
- Facilitate timely discussions among stakeholders to resolve field challenges while supporting progress toward project milestones.
- Manage issues in real time by identifying, investigating, documenting, escalating when necessary, and efficiently closing them out.
- Maintain consistent, organized records of inspections, ITPs, NCRs, quality logs, first article inspections, inspection checklists, and related communication trails.
- Ensure all quality documentation meets project standards and is audit-ready for owners, EPCs, and third-party inspectors.
- Collaborate closely with the site manager and other project stakeholders to keep construction progressing safely, efficiently, and in line with schedule pressures.
- Support rapid decision-making in the field while ensuring that quality and compliance are never compromised.
- Provide a reliable on-site presence that minimizes the level of oversight required from remote leadership.
- Operate independently with a self-directed, "hit-the-ground-running" mindset, taking ownership of quality outcomes.
- Anticipate site needs, surface emerging issues early, and maintain consistent productivity without direct supervision.
- Uphold a high standard of professionalism, dependability, and responsiveness in a dynamic construction and commissioning environment.
- Oversee quality across installation of large-format LFP battery units, system integration, substation works, and commissioning activities on a utility-scale BESS project.
- Submit and coordinate required quality documentation to owners, EPCs, and third-party inspectors as needed to support project approvals and milestones.
Essential Skills
- Combined 5+ years of field engineering and quality experience in construction environments, including utility or industrial projects.
- Proven construction coordination and oversight experience in utility or industrial projects such as renewables, utility-scale power generation, ICI, or residential construction.
- Strong experience in civil or electrical engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Hands-on experience performing First Article Inspections (FA) and completing Inspection Checklists (ICL) in the field.
- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings and construction blueprints.
- Knowledge of all major construction disciplines and how they interact, including electrical, civil, mechanical, and structural scopes.
- Experience identifying, documenting, and closing non-conformance reports (NCRs) in a construction or industrial environment.
- Familiarity with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), including the ability to analyze, review, and manage them through to closure.
- Experience submitting quality documentation to owners, EPCs, or third-party inspectors in support of project requirements.
- Familiarity with witness inspections, hold-point inspections, and multi-point inspection processes.
- Engineering or equivalent experience sufficient to support detailed drawing review and technical interpretation in the field.
- Ability to clearly articulate the purpose and application of quality tools such as hypothesis testing and Ishikawa (fishbone) root-cause analysis diagrams.
- Fluency with MS Office tools, including strong working knowledge of Excel for logs, tracking, and reporting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to operate in a trusted client-facing capacity.
- Demonstrated solution-oriented mindset and ability to work independently in the field while maintaining high quality standards.
- Experience in civil or electrical scopes related to BESS, battery storage, or energy storage projects.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience on utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) or large-scale energy storage projects.
- Exposure to large-format LFP battery units, system integration, and substation construction or commissioning.
- Experience working within provincially backed or large public-sector infrastructure programs.
- Supporting or collaborating with EPC contractors and project owners on complex industrial or utility projects.
- Familiarity with quality expectations and documentation standards on large-scale clean-energy or power-generation projects.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with site leadership, subcontractors, and diverse project stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining audit-ready quality records and logs.
- Demonstrated initiative, reliability, and accountability in remote or minimally supervised site roles.
- Interest in advancing a career in the clean-energy sector, particularly in utility-scale storage technology and infrastructure.
Work Environment
This is a full-time, on-site role based at a large-scale construction site for a grid-scale battery-storage project in Ontario. You will work primarily in the field, overseeing quality across installation, integration, substation work, and commissioning activities in a hands-on environment. The standard schedule is based on 8-hour days, with significant overtime expected during peak construction and commissioning periods. You will collaborate closely with the site quality team, on-site crews, and project stakeholders, including the project owner and EPC, within a dynamic, fast-moving environment where rapid decision-making and clear communication are essential. The site operates with a strong focus on safety, quality, and schedule adherence, and you will be surrounded by modern utility-scale storage technologies and associated construction equipment. This role offers a high possibility of extension and provides exposure to a global leader in utility-scale storage technology, within a provincially backed long-term reliability program and in partnership with local communities.
