Mid Level Project Engineer

Teledyne Brown Engineering Inc. (TBE) in Knoxville, TN, is seeking a mid level Project Engineer to provide technical leadership, design oversight, and project coordination for complex mechanical and control-system-based equipment used in high-reliability and international monitoring programs, including systems supporting the CTBTO's International Monitoring System.

This role focuses on leading and managing engineering efforts, reviewing and guiding mechanical design work, coordinating cross-functional project activities, and supporting system integration and testing. Occasional hands-on design and troubleshooting will be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate mechanical engineering activities across design, fabrication, testing, and system integration.
  • Review and oversee fabrication and assembly drawings in accordance with ASME Y14 standards.
  • Ensure tolerance compliance and manufacturability of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Interpret electrical schematics for system-level integration and troubleshooting.
  • Develop proposals, customer presentations, design specifications, test reports, and documentation packages.
  • Work directly with technicians during system builds to validate specifications and ensure compliance.
  • Participate in customer technical working groups and project review meetings.
  • Estimate labor, track project hours, and coordinate schedules with project managers.
  • Troubleshoot complex systems using sensor data, telemetry, and log files.
  • Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and assist with material tracking during fabrication.
  • Perform additional project engineering duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • High-purity compressed air systems
    • Cryogenic cooling systems
    • High-vacuum systems
    • Industrial control systems
    • Nuclear detection or environmental monitoring equipment
  • Strong mechanical engineering foundation with experience in design oversight, tolerance analysis, and ASME drawing standards.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics for integrated system development.
  • Experience coordinating engineering tasks or leading technical project activities.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills for customer-facing documentation.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain/maintain security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel approximately ±10% domestically and internationally.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $78.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
