Principal System Safety Engineer

As a Principal System Safety Engineer, the role involves:

• Developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs.
• Performing MIL-STD-882 System Safety Program tasks and analyses, including management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400).
• Collaborating across all integrated product teams and lines to address hazards or establish effective controls.
• Coordinating with customer safety representatives, applying methods, standards, and techniques to clarify system requirements for software, hardware, and test personnel, ensuring design and architecture considerations are allocated and integrated across development teams.
• Working with Program Management and government approval authorities from program initiation through production, demilitarization, and disposal.

Key responsibilities include:

• Analyzing engineering hardware, mechanical, and electrical drawings and schematics to assess fault tolerance, latent hazards, and compliance with safety requirements.
• Supporting system test and tactical operation and maintenance procedures to verify appropriate administrative system safety controls.
• Designing clear, testable safety requirements or conducting safety analysis on existing requirements.
• Monitoring technical execution of programs.
• Mentoring junior engineers.
• Engaging with stakeholders such as customers, program offices, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for customer approval.
• Presenting program safety information at technical reviews and during the safety approval process.
• Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
• Preparing internal and customer reports related to various System Safety program analyses.
• Collaborating with multiple disciplines to understand product architecture and design.

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $90.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Tewksbury, MA.
