PCB DFM Engineer

Join a dynamic Design and Manufacturing Engineering team dedicated to developing, designing, and delivering electrical sub-systems and PCBA designs for satellite avionic systems, communication systems, ground stations, and customer terminals. As part of an inclusive, interdisciplinary team, you will have extensive exposure to various core groups and play a pivotal role in guiding hardware from design to production and operation.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Design Engineering team to provide feedback on PCB designs and identify manufacturing challenges early in product development.
  • Support the operations of the PCB fabrication facility by managing scheduling, workflow, and resource allocation.
  • Implement and optimize fabrication processes including etching, drilling, plating, and lamination while adhering to strict cleanroom procedures.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment for multilayer PCB processes such as lamination, drilling, imaging, plating, and etching.
  • Drive the PCBA Manufacturing Qualification process both in-house and at Contract Manufacturers, ensuring all production readiness deliverables are complete.
  • Investigate and develop new manufacturing technologies and methodologies to enhance PCBA quality, reliability, throughput, and cost.
  • Resolve operational issues during pre-production builds and collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, R&D, and Reliability Engineering to optimize manufacturing processes and improve production yields.
  • Investigate production failures/defects, identify root causes, and implement solutions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Identify opportunities for risk reduction and simplification of PCBA manufacturing processes.
  • Deliver manufacturing process capabilities including equipment capability, quality controls, materials characterization, and standardized rework practices.
  • Monitor the success of products and processes during production ramp and provide regular progress reports.
  • Deploy and qualify polymerics equipment for high-volume production.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in electrical engineering, PCB design, and PCB manufacturing.
  • Development, design, and delivery experience for electrical sub-systems and PCBA designs.
  • Proficiency in working with microcontrollers, SOCs, FPGAs, power supplies, electric motors, high speed, and RF components.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or an equivalent field is preferred.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
  • Experience in project management for technical projects.

Work Environment

This position is based onsite in Los Angeles, CA. The role offers the opportunity to impact a satellite constellation project aimed at providing internet access. The initial contract is for six months, with the potential for long-term engagement. Employees receive 7 paid holidays and 15 days of PTO annually, with an open statement of work and no tenure limit.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
