Optical Test Engineer

This position as a Senior Optical Test Engineer offers an exciting opportunity to work in a leading high technology telecommunications company. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that develops a broad range of optical telecommunication products, including next-generation WSS and OCM modules, amplifier modules, circuit packs, ROADMs, SDN white boxes, and many other advanced photonic products.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement optical test and verification strategies for internal customers to transition products from initial design and NPI stages to volume manufacturing.
• Prepare design verification test plans, execute test cases, and summarize results in technical reports for internal or external customers.
• Collaborate with engineers in R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams to meet or exceed product requirements.
• Design and develop advanced testing methods to address emerging applications.
• Deliver robust, well-documented, scalable optical tests and complete verification and validation on targeted products using agile development methodologies.
• Share best practices and support other engineering teams with optical development activities related to process and test automation.
• Program automated testing software.

Essential Skills

• University degree in physics or optics.
• 3+ years of experience in optical test design verification for optical prototypes.
• Experience in test automation using Python and C#.
• Proficiency in using test equipment and validation processes.
• Knowledge of test engineering, electrical concepts, Matlab, software testing, and firmware.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of automation programming experience with VB.NET, C#, or C++.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to drive solutions through cross-functional teams.
• Experience with electrical and optical test and measurement equipment.
• Knowledge of optical components and systems.
• Familiarity with Agile software development tools (e.g., Jira), source control (SVN, Git), and peer code review.
• Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), such as Camstar.
• Understanding of Lean and Six-Sigma concepts and statistics, such as OEE, SPC, GR&R.

Work Environment

The role is based within the photonics business unit and requires onsite work. The position involves working with cutting-edge technologies and equipment in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Nepean, Ontario.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $80.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Nepean,ON.
