Immediate Hire: Controls Engineer (Nuclear)

We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Control Systems Engineer to support engineering activities within commercial nuclear power plants and nuclear test facilities. This role focuses on developing and implementing solutions for reactor protection systems, augmented quality systems, regulatory treatment of non-safety systems, and plant investment protection systems. You will contribute across multiple phases of engineering design, from conceptual development through final detailed design.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, evaluate, and manage engineering solutions for nuclear instrumentation and control (I&C) systems.
  • Apply control theory, mathematical modeling, and simulation to design control systems with defined behaviors, including:
    • Logic development across operating modes
    • System optimization and boundary definition
    • Closed-loop/feedback control algorithms
    • Sensor, hardware, and software integration
  • Develop designs for Reactor Protection Systems, including neutron monitoring, reactor trip functions, ECCS, engineered safety features, and isolation systems.
  • Prepare designs for Augmented Quality Assurance Systems, such as diverse actuation/protection, reactivity control rods, steam bypass, and pressure control systems.
  • Prepare designs for Plant Investment Protection Systems, including anticipatory trip, feedwater level control, reactor water cleanup, shutdown cooling, pool cooling, and leak detection/isolation systems.
  • Prepare designs for non-safety-related balance-of-plant systems, including service water, instrument air, electrical loads (AC/DC), diesel generators, and HVAC.
  • Lead or contribute to engineering design phases, including front-end engineering, conceptual, preliminary, intermediate, and detailed/final design.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documents, reports, specifications, databases, and system diagrams using digital engineering tools with strict configuration management and change control requirements.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong experience in controls engineering and nuclear systems.
  • Experience in instrumentation & controls, nuclear engineering, and systems engineering.
  • Knowledge of design requirements, specifications, PLCs, DCS platforms, IEC standards, and monitoring systems.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related technical degree in: Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Computer Science/Technology, Software/Systems, Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
  • 10+ years of experience in heavy industries such as nuclear, power generation, oil & gas, marine, aerospace, military, medical, or pharmaceutical.
  • 10+ years developing system design requirements, specifications, documentation, and detailed design artifacts using digital tools.
  • 10+ years preparing system diagrams and developing physics-based modeling/simulation algorithms.
  • 10+ years working with IEC 60xxx, 61xxx, and 62xxx series standards.
  • 10+ years of proficiency with engineering productivity tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, Visio).
  • 10+ years in design, application, requisition, or field engineering for safety-significant I&C and monitoring systems.
  • 5+ years working with PLCs or top-tier DCS systems in complex, real-time environments.
