Network Security Engineer

The Network Security Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of network infrastructure that supports and protects corporate network and cloud environments. This role involves partnering with compliance, DevOps, and IT teams to ensure secure and reliable connectivity between devices and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure to support corporate and cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with compliance, DevOps, and IT teams to ensure secure network connectivity.
  • Configure and manage Fortinet products including FortiGate and FortiAP.
  • Implement and manage ZTNA platforms such as Cato Networks and Zscaler.
  • Handle cloud networking and security fundamentals within Azure and AWS.
  • Manage VPN technologies including IPsec site-to-site and SSL VPN.
  • Configure Access Control Lists (ACLs), Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRFs), and VLANs.
  • Utilize Linux operating systems and command line interface for network management.
  • Use penetration testing tools to assess network security.
  • Employ network monitoring and troubleshooting tools like Wireshark, ping, and traceroute.
  • Create detailed network diagrams.
  • Implement cybersecurity best practices on network infrastructure.
  • Investigate and resolve network connectivity issues and security incidents.
  • Be available on-call as the primary contact for networking, sometimes during off-hours.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency with Fortinet product suite and ZTNA platforms.
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking and security fundamentals.
  • Experience with VPN technologies.
  • Knowledge of Access Control Lists (ACLs), Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRFs), and VLANs.
  • Competency with Linux operating systems and CLI.
  • Familiarity with penetration testing and network monitoring tools.
  • CCNA certification or equivalent hands-on network engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in network design, implementation, and troubleshooting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Two-year degree in IT, Computer Science, Networking, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience creating detailed network diagrams.
  • Background in implementing cybersecurity best practices on network infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with ZTNA concepts and architecture.

Work Environment

The role requires a hybrid schedule with local presence in Durham. You will need to be available as the primary contact for networking issues, sometimes during off-hours.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Durham, North Carolina.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
