Mechanical Engineer

Join a Canadian company specializing in advanced training solutions for aerospace and defense. Our team designs and develops interactive courseware, virtual and augmented reality simulators, and mission training systems for aircrew and rear crew operations. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing mechanical systems and creating drawing packages for our simulation product group. You will work on improving existing simulator products and collaborate with a team to develop new simulation products.

Responsibilities:

  • Document and review design specifications.
  • Develop design concepts in AutoCAD Inventor.
  • Analyze and select appropriate modeling techniques and design architecture.
  • Develop preliminary and detailed models in AutoCAD Inventor.
  • Create detailed part drawings and assembly drawings according to internal standards.
  • Organize model and drawing releases in line with internal procedures.
  • Incorporate design changes based on internal and external stakeholder feedback.
  • Prepare fabrication drawing packages and specifications for sub-contractor quoting.
  • Collaborate closely with fabricators and machine shops to ensure quality products.
  • Inspect fabricated parts and assemblies through physical configuration audits.
  • Communicate with the assembly team to resolve design-related assembly issues.
  • Log and manage Engineering Changes and Waivers.
  • Follow documented systems engineering standards and practices.
  • Participate in R&D projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to and enforce safe work practices in the integration facility.

Essential Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design.
  • Proficiency with any CAD software, including at least 1 year using AutoDesk Inventor within the last 5-10 years.
  • Mechanical design, drafting, modeling, and GD&T expertise.
  • Experience in the aerospace and defense industry.
  • Solidworks, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Vault knowledge.
  • Eligibility for CGD & Reliability clearance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience with skeleton modeling or top-down modeling techniques.
  • Application of GD&T callouts and tolerance stack-up.
  • Knowledge of welding standards.
  • Experience with PDM software and methods, such as AutoDesk Vault.
  • Familiarity with static and dynamic structural FEA tools.
  • Hands-on experience in assembling and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
  • Attention to detail, ability to follow standards, and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Strong organizational skills, flexibility, deadline-driven, and detail-oriented.

Work Environment:

Ideally located in Halifax, with the option to work in the office 2-3 times a week. Collaborate with the mechanical engineering/design team and the assembly team. Work within a small to medium-sized enterprise that offers a strong value proposition with 100% Canadian designed and developed solutions.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Halifax, NS.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
