Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to design and analyze mechanical systems and components. The successful candidate will prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications, leading or supporting pressure vessel and piping design projects from concept through fabrication and inspection. This role requires ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements while collaborating with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Conduct failure analysis and recommend corrective actions.
  • Stamp and approve engineering documents as required by PE licensure.
  • Work directly with Sales and Manufacturing to follow customer specifications and complete product designs.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Designers to select components, develop drawings, and maintain as-built revisions.
  • Advise Mechanical Designers in creating and modifying 3D models and 2D drawings.
  • Create and modify 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks or AutoCAD as needed.
  • Select proper components and generate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Provide needed calculations for tanks and/or pressure piping components.
  • Work with vendors to introduce new and cost-effective products into our systems.
  • Participate in inspections of products in various stages of the production process.
  • Help maintain our ASME Quality Control System.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement Initiatives to develop better procedures and increase efficiency.
  • Assist Project Management with customer interface and act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Mechanical Design queries.
  • Create and update internal documents for Engineering Procedures and Training.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical engineering expertise with a focus on mechanical design.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code or ASME B31 piping codes.
  • Strong grasp of materials, welding, and fabrication processes.
  • Active PE license in Tennessee or ability to attain quickly.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical engineering.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent technical experience (Master's preferred).

Work Environment

This position involves both office work, as well as project and manufacturing engagements. This role will encompass both hands-on engineering and work performed on a computer while sitting at a desk. The work environment features low to moderate exposure to noise, heat, and cold. Physical requirements include walking, bending, hand dexterity, speaking, seeing, and lifting/moving up to 15 pounds. Safety attire such as steel toe shoes, earplugs, and safety glasses are required on the production floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Morristown, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $150000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
