Mechanical Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing and engineering custom automated equipment. This role involves creating cutting-edge fully automated assembly equipment, as well as supporting simpler design needs such as hand tools, jigs, and part holding fixtures.

Responsibilities

  • Use SolidWorks to design automated assembly machines, including robot enclosures, rotary dials, end of arm tooling, end-of-line testing, table equipment, part fixtures, and bowl feeder in-lines.
  • Design with assembly, manufacturability, and GD&T in mind.
  • Work with vendors for quotes and testing of high-end equipment such as tool changers, robots, index tables, feeding bowls, vision systems, sensors, and pneumatic devices.
  • Collaborate with machining and assembly teams to troubleshoot and solve unforeseen problems.
  • Design systems that include mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and robotic devices.
  • Produce technical drawings and Bill of Materials for multi-departmental and customer use.
  • Assist in the development of SolidWorks models and drawings of custom automated machinery.
  • Update models and drawings from information in redlines to ensure future parts are machined properly.
  • Improve existing models by redesigning components and adding fasteners for proper documentation.
  • Communicate with customers for their input throughout the design process and approval.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in designing custom automated machines/equipment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Experience in FEA analysis.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Engineering Degree (nice to have).
  • Experience with companies such as Eagle Technologies (Convergix), JR Automation, or Edgewater is advantageous.

Work Environment

The Mechanical Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and work alongside a team of 5 other mechanical engineers. The role entails a 45-hour work week. Employees receive 10 days of PTO and 6 paid holidays. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of cutting-edge machines and equipment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mattawan, Michigan.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.87 - $45.67/hr.
