Mechanical Design Engineer
The Mechanical Design Engineer will support essential business processes by providing cost-effective product design support. Under the leadership of the Manager of Manufacturing, this role will be responsible for the design and documentation of products during the design and development phases, driving cross-functional involvement, and partnering in the identification and development of new suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Design and document products during the design and development phases.
- Own design and development activities.
- Drive cross-functional involvement in strict adherence to the development process.
- Partner in the identification of new suppliers and drive the supplier development process.
- Support procurement in managing the existing supply base.
- Understand current automotive accessory trends.
- Produce engineering designs and drawings in accordance with applicable drawing and quality standards.
- Maintain proficiency with drawing standards and tolerancing.
- Maintain proficiency with document and configuration control methods and standards.
- Maintain adherence to accessory product expectations for assigned categories.
- Facilitate supplier readiness for manufacturing accessories.
- Facilitate manufacturing process readiness for accessory installation, including installation training.
- Participate in model year carry-over validation activities.
- Support accessory product quality problem-solving efforts, including supplier corrective actions.
- Participate in Field Quality Plan development for newly launched accessories.
- Participate in the review of warranty and other indicators of field performance and customer satisfaction.
- Contribute to the continual improvement of accessory development and launch processes.
- Assist in determining the direction of the accessory portfolio and optimize product categories.
- Ensure responsible handling of consumer and customer data in accordance with applicable policies.
- Review and adhere to data privacy practices, policies, and guidelines.
Essential Skills
- Experience in mechanical design and engineering.
- Proficiency in design software such as Solidworks, CAD, and Creo Parametric.
- Experience in Research & Development and full life cycle product development.
- Experience in new product development and mechanical engineering product design.
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in Solidworks, CAD, R&D, and prototyping.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Automotive or aerospace experience is nice to have.
- Experience with Windchill, sheet metal, GD&T.
- Customer-facing experience.
- Reliable and consistent on-site attendance is required.
- Punctuality and dependability to meet business needs, including attending meetings and presentations.
Work Environment
This is an on-site position where the engineer will work at their desk and occasionally on the shop floor. They will observe sample production and fit checks on vehicles. Work hours are flexible, with core hours from 9 AM to 4 PM.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tomball, Texas.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
