Mechanical Design Engineer

The Mechanical Design Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the process to provide essential, cost-effective product design support under the guidance of the Manager of Manufacturing. This role involves being responsible for the design and documentation of products during the design and development phases, driving cross-functional involvement, and partnering in the identification and development of new suppliers.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and document products during design and development phases.
  • Own design and development activities and ensure strict adherence to the development process.
  • Drive cross-functional involvement in the design process.
  • Identify new suppliers and drive supplier development processes.
  • Support procurement in managing the existing supply base.
  • Understand current automotive accessory trends.
  • Produce engineering designs and drawings in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Maintain proficiency with drawing standards, tolerancing, and configuration control methods.
  • Facilitate accessory supplier readiness for manufacturing and installation.
  • Participate in model year carry-over validation activities.
  • Support accessory product quality problem-solving efforts.
  • Participate in Field Quality Plan development for newly launched accessories.
  • Review warranty and other indicators of field performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of accessory development and launch processes.
  • Help optimize the accessory product category.
  • Handle consumer and customer data responsibly according to policies.
  • Participate in meetings and presentations punctually and dependably.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in Research & Development and full life cycle product development.
  • Experience in new product development and mechanical engineering in product design.
  • Proficiency in CREO, R&D, prototyping, customer-facing roles, and new product development.
  • 2+ years of experience in CREO, mechanical design, sheet metal, GD&T.
  • Proficiency in Windchill and understanding of automotive and aerospace backgrounds.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Reliable and consistent on-site attendance.
  • Ability to produce engineering designs and drawings in accordance with quality standards.
  • Proficiency in document and configuration control methods.
  • Understanding of accessory product expectations and vehicle applicability.

Work Environment:

This is an onsite position requiring punctual and dependable attendance. The engineer will work primarily at a desk and occasionally on the shop floor, overseeing sample production and fit checks on vehicles. The work hours are flexible, with core hours from 9 AM to 4 PM. The environment is dynamic, involving close collaboration with cross-functional teams and suppliers.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tomball, Texas.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
