Manufacturing Test Engineer

As a Manufacturing Test Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and maintenance of test systems for electrical and control subsystems across robotic product lines. You will be responsible for building and implementing automated test solutions for embedded hardware to enhance efficiency, traceability, and test coverage. You will collaborate closely with design, systems, firmware, and manufacturing teams to ensure the testability and manufacturability of products. Additionally, you will analyze test data to identify issues, drive root cause investigations, and implement corrective actions. Your contributions will support new product introductions by creating scalable test strategies from prototype to production, while also maintaining and updating documentation for test equipment, processes, and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components for test stations, creating fixtures and mechanical setups for testing robot parts using CAD tools like SolidWorks or NX.
  • Define mechanical test requirements, determining what needs to be tested and establishing methods, tools, and processes for testing.
  • Focus on robot mechanical subsystems, testing critical components such as motors, actuators, and mechanical assemblies for performance, precision, and alignment.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians, continuously improving test practices and tools.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and systems engineering to specify testing requirements and establish validation protocols in a production environment.
  • Develop and implement test systems, designing, building, and maintaining automated test systems for robotic mechanical subsystems.
  • Analyze production testing, monitoring test outcomes to identify failure modes, conducting root-cause analysis, and proposing corrective actions.

Essential Skills

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME) or Electrical Engineering (EE) with strong mechanical testing experience.
  • 5-7+ years of relatable experience.
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with test systems and product validation.
  • Proficiency in firmware, electrical engineering, design, and test engineering.
  • Skills in C++, Python, and CAD tools like SolidWorks or NX.
  • Experience with manufacturing execution systems (MES), test result databases, and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Exposure to safety-critical product development and regulatory compliance standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in robotics or highly integrated mechatronic systems.
  • Experience with embedded firmware, software testing, and communication protocols like I2C, SPI, UART, CAN Bus, EtherCAT, and SQL.
  • Familiarity with Altium for design work.

Work Environment

This role involves a balanced work environment, spending 50% of your time between the lab/manufacturing floor and the office setting. The position requires on-site work five days a week, with potential flexibility in the future. You will have the opportunity to work on the next generation of robotic systems.
