Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for recommending new machinery and tooling selections, costing, and manufacturing options for new products and changes in existing methods and standards. This role provides knowledgeable assistance in various areas of plant operations and involves decision-making in selecting appropriate manufacturing processes, including tooling, gauging, and workplace layout.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide machinery, tooling, material specifications, manufacturing processes, quality inspection documents, and incentive time standards needed for accurate and safe manufacturing of component parts.
  • Collaborate with college co-op students and rotating training personnel when applicable.
  • Offer day-to-day support for the Production department.
  • Reduce costs, increase productivity, reduce scrap/re-work, and provide resources for training and problem-solving.
  • Research and develop new manufacturing processes.
  • Identify and submit Value Improvement Process (VIP) opportunities.
  • Evaluate Process Improvement Requests (PIR) and Corrective Action Requests (CAR) for incorporation into manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain Engineering Change Orders at current revision levels.
  • Attend training sessions in specialized subjects.
  • Maintain plant and departmental records, including machinery records, component routings, routing files, tooling library files, and quality documents.
  • Conduct studies and create appropriation requests for capital spending projects, including purchase requisitions and delivery schedules.
  • Maintain/establish OMS, Building Materials, Routings, and Costing.

Essential Skills:

  • Expertise in manufacturing engineering and process engineering.
  • Proficiency in layout design and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in cost reduction, continuous improvement, and lean manufacturing.
  • BS Engineering and/or 7+ years of engineering or manufacturing experience.
  • Specialized training in time standards, machine tool programming, statistical process control, computer applications, and workplace safety.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with college co-op students and trainees.
  • Experience in maintaining detailed records and documentation.

The work environment involves active participation in the design, production, and distribution of a full range of lift truck attachments and industrial material handling equipment for the U.S. market. The latest production methods and technology, combined with personnel expertise, enable adaptation to diverse and demanding customer requirements. The commitment to providing suitable products and handling solutions has led to close cooperation with major forklift truck manufacturers, supplying a wide range of products such as integral and hook-on side shifters, fork positioners, paper roll clamps, bale clamps, carton clamps, push pulls, multi-pallet handlers, rotators, and forks.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Permanent position based out of Sulligent, AL.

Pay and Benefits:
