Logistics Support
The Logistics Support professional handles both the physical and administrative tasks involved in shipping, receiving, and internal distribution of materials. This role manages inbound deliveries, prepares outbound freight, supports laboratory operations, and provides courier services across the site. The position requires careful attention to detail, strong customer service, and the ability to work safely with chemicals, laboratory materials, and equipment in a fast-paced on-site environment.
Responsibilities
- Receive all incoming goods and verify their accuracy against packing slips and other documentation.
- Open, inspect, and log all packages from carriers such as FedEx and UPS at the start of the day.
- Enter all relevant receiving information into electronic tracking and receiving systems in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date receiving files, including packing slips and related records.
- Follow up with the Purchasing Department regarding receiving discrepancies or issues, as directed by the supervisor.
- Box and deliver incoming materials to the appropriate recipients, including scientists and laboratory personnel.
- Package outbound shipments for transfer to carriers, couriers, and brokers, ensuring proper labeling, documentation, and compliance with shipping requirements.
- Track inbound and outbound packages and proactively communicate delivery date changes or issues to the appropriate teams.
- Work closely with laboratories to distribute, ship, and receive materials such as chemicals, laboratory equipment, lab glassware, and consumables.
- Unload equipment deliveries and promptly notify the equipment team via collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams.
- Perform regular mail pick-up and delivery according to assigned schedules, including interoffice mail.
- Apply safety protocols when receiving, handling, and shipping chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Operate or learn to operate a forklift to support loading, unloading, and movement of materials, following all safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment in all shipping, receiving, and storage areas.
- Collaborate with another logistics team member to ensure coverage and support a team-oriented work environment.
- Provide courteous, responsive service to internal customers and external carriers, demonstrating a strong customer service mindset.
- Follow standard operating procedures and internal guidelines for all shipping, receiving, and documentation activities.
- Perform other logistics, courier, or administrative duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- 2 to 3 years of on-site lab or logistics work experience, including shipping and receiving responsibilities.
- Experience handling chemicals or hazardous materials in a logistics or laboratory environment.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds safely and repeatedly as part of daily duties.
- Knowledge of safety protocols for receiving, handling, and shipping chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Basic computer skills to operate tracking applications and other related systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel with basic fluency.
- Ability to follow and apply standard operating procedures in shipping and receiving activities.
- Sound verbal and written communication skills for interacting with scientists, colleagues, and external carriers.
- Customer service mindset with the ability to interact professionally with internal stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license.
- Willingness to drive and be trained on forklift operation.
- High school diploma or equivalent degree.
- Attention to detail for accurate logging, filing, and tracking of shipments and packing slips.
- Ability to work on-site full time during the required shift.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience in a laboratory, pharmaceutical, or hazardous materials logistics environment is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in pharma or handling hazardous materials is a significant plus.
- Previous experience operating a forklift; candidates will receive training and certification if needed.
- Familiarity with internal and external shipping and receiving guidelines and regulations.
- Experience working in a laboratory or research setting, including handling lab equipment, glassware, and consumables.
- Ability to use collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams for communication and notifications.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple deliveries, shipments, and documentation simultaneously.
- Reliability and punctuality to support a consistent Monday through Friday schedule.
- Comfort working in a team environment and covering responsibilities for colleagues when needed.
Job Type & Location: This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
