Lab Operations Specialist

The Lab Operations Specialist supports end-to-end sample management and laboratory operations across multiple departments in a regulated GMP environment. This role ensures accurate documentation of samples in ERP, quality systems, and Excel, supports biopsy accessioning activities, and assists with cleanroom gowning procedures. The position offers exposure to GMP practices, cross-functional collaboration, and opportunities for growth and advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Support sample management activities across several departments while strictly following SOPs and GMP procedures.
  • Move and distribute materials and samples across all laboratory and operational departments in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Ensure all samples are accurately documented and tracked in ERP systems, quality systems, and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Perform biopsy accessioning activities for all relevant processes, including proper labeling, logging, and handling of specimens.
  • Support cleanroom operations by assisting with and following proper gowning procedures.
  • Assist with media preparation and inventory management to ensure laboratory supplies and materials are available and properly stored.
  • Perform accurate and efficient data entry in Excel and other systems to maintain complete and compliant records.
  • Follow established laboratory SOPs and cGMP requirements to maintain quality and regulatory compliance in all activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth lab operations and effective sample flow between departments.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and compliant work area, promptly reporting any issues or discrepancies in samples, materials, or documentation.

Essential Skills

  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in laboratory operations, sample management, or a similar role.
  • Associate Degree or equivalent education in a scientific or related field.
  • Hands-on experience with sample management, including receiving, accessioning, and tracking samples.
  • Proficiency with Excel, including accurate data entry and basic spreadsheet management.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and quality systems to document and manage samples and materials.
  • Working knowledge of GMP and cGMP principles and the ability to follow SOPs in a regulated environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple departments and manage tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a laboratory setting handling media preparation and inventory management.
  • Familiarity with biopsy accessioning processes and specimen handling procedures.
  • Comfort with cleanroom environments and willingness to follow gowning procedures.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Motivation to learn GMP requirements and expand knowledge of regulated laboratory operations.
  • Interest in long-term growth opportunities, including potential promotion and expanded responsibilities.

Work Environment

This role is based in a laboratory and operations environment that supports multiple departments and follows GMP and cGMP standards. The schedule options include Tuesday–Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or Sunday–Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The position involves working with ERP and quality systems, Excel, and other laboratory tools to manage samples and inventory. The work may include time in cleanroom areas where proper gowning procedures are required. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cambridge, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
