Fiber Optics Manufacturing Engineer

As a Forensics Manufacturing Engineer, you will be directly responsible for building, testing, qualifying, and producing next-generation spacecraft. You will utilize innovative solutions and cutting-edge technology to solve difficult manufacturing and engineering problems on a daily basis at both a systems and specialized level. You will be a critical lynchpin between the production, development, tooling, supply chain, and quality teams, leading production on the assembly line as well as new production introduction. You will also be responsible for developing and executing root cause analysis on defective or failed production modules to develop process technical improvements to drive production yield to 100%. Furthermore, you will build repeatable repair structures for common module defects via the development of work instructions, bill of materials, and routing for repair shop orders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop production processes and technical data such as defining, testing, validating, documenting, and deploying new rework procedures, work order routings, bills of material, and test report structures.
  • Lead the root cause analysis of failed or defective production materials, including documenting and approving teardown/investigation plans, executing special test teardown plans directly, documenting investigations, conclusions on root cause of defects, and developing corrective action plans for future defects.
  • Collaborate with the design engineering group on the delivery of technical solutions for defect modes that occur repeatedly.

Essential Skills

  • Manufacturing engineering experience in optics, fiber optics, ISP equipment, PCBA, and electrical engineering.
  • Experience: 3-8 years.
  • Education: BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Optics/Optical Sciences.
  • Familiarity with low rate manufacturing environments and new product introduction.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing practices and principles.
  • Experience with root cause analysis techniques such as Fishbone, Fault Tree, DMAIC, etc.
  • Experience with optical system performance metrology, SAP, ERP, NX Siemens, Aerospace, and optical manufacturing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP software.
  • Experience with NX Unigraphics or similar CAD software.
  • Experience with aerospace and/or optical manufacturing.
  • Experience with fiber optic systems.
  • Experience with statistical analysis software such as Minitab.

Work Environment

The work environment consists of spending 40% of the time on the production floor working with technician teams to execute special test teardown activities on defective material. Another 40% of the time will be spent on self-directed work off the production floor to develop test/teardown plans, document observations from forensic investigations, develop standard rework plans, etc. The remaining 20% will be spent in meetings such as root cause review meetings and daily stand-ups.

This is a Contract position based out of Redmond, Washington.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $79.48/hr.
