Chemical Engineering Technician
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols to safely and accurately conduct chemical tests and material treatments. You will prepare chemical solutions and execute electrochemical processing steps, including plating, etching, and other wet chemistry techniques. This position requires an individual who can maintain a clean and organized work area, comply with health, safety, and environmental standards, and manage chemical inventories.
Responsibilities
- Follow established SOPs, protocols, and work instructions to carry out chemical tests and material treatments safely and accurately.
- Prepare chemical solutions and perform surface preparation using solvents, acids, bases, and other reagents.
- Execute electrochemical processing steps such as plating, etching, and other wet chemistry techniques.
- Collect experimental data, prepare reports, and communicate results to team members.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness in the work area while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Safely handle, store, and dispose of hazardous chemicals and waste streams in accordance with company regulatory requirements.
- Track and maintain inventory of chemicals and consumables.
- Train and mentor team members in safe chemical handling, equipment operation, and production procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives targeting process control, safety, efficiency, and production quality.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in a production environment with a strong foundation in chemistry principles and chemical safety.
- Skilled in wet chemical processing, surface preparation, plating, etching, and material analysis.
- Proficiency with standard measuring instruments used in chemical processes and metrology tools.
- Ability to execute chemical processes from written SOPs and work instructions with accuracy and consistency.
- Strong organizational skills with precise data recording and reporting abilities.
- Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools such as Excel, Google Sheets, and JMP.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a troubleshooting mindset.
- Knowledge of hazardous chemical handling, storage, disposal, and environmental compliance requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience preferred.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment
This position is based onsite in Emeryville, and candidates should reside within 45 minutes of the location. The company operates as a startup with sites in Berkeley and Santa Clara, offering a vibrant and innovative work environment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
