Engineering Technician

The Ground Robotics Technician for Autonomous Vehicle Technologies is responsible for testing the vehicle's electronic and mechanical systems both before and after installation. This testing includes calibration, closed road testing and tuning, and open road highway testing, specifically for remote and leader-follower automated driving vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed development work in the areas of RF, analog, and digital electronics under the guidance of engineers.
  • Work independently to quickly resolve existing problems and/or malfunctions.
  • Collect and analyze engineering test data toward specific objectives.
  • Research and analyze electronic components for new designs and replacement of obsolete parts.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Implement and test engineering changes.
  • Create test plans and procedures for products under development.
  • Travel to environmental and electromagnetic interference testing labs for new development qualification testing.
  • Travel to customer sites within the U.S. or Europe for vehicle surveys, system installations, and follow-on testing, often outdoors, for durations ranging from a few days to a few weeks.
  • Remain at the assigned worksite during designated hours.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in electronics, troubleshooting, electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, work instructions, and component identifications.
  • Experience with advanced test equipment and computer-based control systems.
  • Familiarity with RF radios.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and calibrate electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Understanding of engineering and work instructions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience with unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) technical team in researching, designing, developing, and testing electronic control systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with hardware, software, and mechanical design teams.
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting electronic assemblies down to the electronic component level for new and existing designs.
  • Experience in creating test plans and procedures for product development.

Work Environment:

The work environment includes production, office, and garage/outdoor settings. The role requires the ability to work outdoors on autonomous vehicles, including Class 8 vehicles, and involves testing, troubleshooting, and calibrating electrical and mechanical systems. Candidates must be able to stand and sit for long periods, work inside, outside, and under vehicles, and lift up to 30 pounds.

This is a Permanent position based out of Fort Walton Beach, FL.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
