Fabrication Engineering Estimator

The Fabrication Specialist will lead the estimation process for machine parts and weldments, taking 2D drawings and 3D models (various formats) and delivering accurate fixed quotes. They will support the fabrication team during production by providing technical guidance on machining, jigs/fixtures, welding, coatings, and NDE quality control. This role plays a key part in bridging customer requirements with shop-floor execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed quotes for machine parts, fabricated assemblies, hydraulic reservoirs, and structural frame weldments.
  • Use quoting software (e.g., Paperless Parts) to generate fixed-cost estimates.
  • Analyze customer 2D drawings and 3D models (AutoCAD, other formats) and generate bills of material using ERP (e.g., Epicor Prophet 21).
  • Develop drawings and BOMs as needed to bridge any gaps between customer supplied details and fabrication requirements.
  • Coordinate with the purchasing team to procure materials and coordinate with vendors for material cost estimates.
  • Guide the shop fabrication team throughout machining, welding, and finishing processes.
  • Interpret welding symbols and ensure AWS welding qualifications are maintained.
  • Establish and maintain qualification records for welders per AWS and ISO-9001 standards.
  • Design jigs and fixturing for repeatable production and setup efficiency.
  • Conduct non-destructive examination and quality control checks and estimate coatings (zinc plating, nickel plating, anodizing, paint) and tolerance/dimensioning standards.
  • Develop processes as needed to support fabrication activities.

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in a machine shop and fabrication environment.
  • Proven ability to estimate machined and fabricated parts and weldments.
  • Proficiency with quoting software (e.g., Paperless Parts) and AutoCAD.
  • Strong sheet metal design experience.
  • Competence in using precision measuring instruments.
  • Understanding of welding protocols, symbols, machinery, and qualification processes.
  • Experience in AWS welding qualification systems and their maintenance.
  • Knowledge of designing jigs and fixturing systems.
  • Experience in performing NDE and quality control in a workshop setting.
  • Working knowledge of ISO-9001 requirements.
  • Experience with hydraulic reservoir fabrication and structural frame weldments.
  • Familiarity with dimensioning/tolerancing practices (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of surface coatings and finishes.
  • ERP experience (especially Epicor Prophet 21) preferred.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
