Embedded Software Engineer

The role is based in Ottawa and involves providing rugged embedded computing solutions that process data in real-time to support mission-critical functions in various environments such as air, ground, and sea. The engineering team is responsible for developing single board computers, graphics, and Ethernet Switching solutions tailored for military programs, while the manufacturing team handles the production of all electronic components. The software team works on firmware and VxWorks running on rugged single board computers, focusing on porting the existing board support package to new boards.

Responsibilities

• Engineer, design, develop, and test new embedded products at the forefront of technology.
• Support and enhance existing embedded software.
• Apply established development processes and assist in process improvement.
• Analyze requirements, research and identify solutions, and develop the design.
• Conduct architecture, design, and code reviews.
• Provide input to architecture and design reviews.
• Evaluate new technologies and products.
• Stay updated with embedded software trends and share knowledge.
• Read and understand IC datasheets, register descriptions, and board schematics.
• Participate in maintaining a positive and productive atmosphere within the team.

Essential Skills

• 8+ years of embedded software development and testing (Full SDLC).
• Experience with developing and debugging device drivers for the Linux Kernel.
• Experience working with Intel UEFI Firmware specifications.
• Must be eligible for Controlled Goods.

Assets

• Embedded development, software testing, embedded C, Python, Linux, kernel, device drivers.
• Experience with ARM, microprocessor, firmware, bootloader, bare metal, Windows, microcontroller.
• Proficiency with Git, Bitbucket, Jira, scripting, software development life cycle.
• Experience in debugging software, unit testing, integration testing, systems testing, regression testing.
• Linux and Windows expertise.
• Experience with ARM processors, U-Boot firmware development, Slim Bootloader development, bare metal programming.
• Board bring-up, VxBus, BSP knowledge.
• Requirements analysis and tracking, software test tools and methodologies.
• Knowledge of PCIe, Ethernet, MDIO, I2C, SPI, TPM, non-volatile memories, SATA, USB, eMMC.
• Proficiency in hardware debugging tools such as digital analyzers and DMMs.

Work Environment

The work environment involves five days on-site. The team consists of 20 software engineers collaborating closely with electrical engineers. The lab is conveniently located around their cubicles for easy access to hardware.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
