Embedded Software Engineer

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to design, implement, test, and document parts of the Firmware containerized microservices running on an embedded Linux-based ARM platform. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of the manufacturing Yocto-based image, aiding factory operators in hardware testing. Your role will involve designing, implementing, testing, and documenting components of the Hardware Security Module embedded software, aligned with quarterly objectives. You will participate in requirements analysis, design discussions, planning sessions, and effort estimates, while documenting and testing your designs, including test automation.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and document firmware containerized microservices.
• Contribute to the development of the manufacturing Yocto-based image.
• Design, implement, test, and document components of the Hardware Security Module embedded software.
• Participate in requirements analysis, design discussions, and planning sessions.
• Document and test designs, including automation testing.

Essential Skills

• Solid work experience in embedded software development in Linux/U-Boot.
• Proficient in C/C++, Python, and Linux shell scripting.
• Experience with new board bring-up.
• Experience writing software using hardware interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, SMBus, PCI-E, NVMe, NOR Flash, DDR, EEPROM, GPIO, USB.
• Linux kernel configuration, root filesystem, device tree.
• Experience writing new Linux kernel modules and drivers.
• Experience with build systems, Yocto, and Gitlab.
• Good understanding of multi-threading and inter-process communication.
• Ability to design complex systems and write functional and design specifications.
• Experience with ARM SoCs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Proficient in Go, Python, and Linux shell scripting.
• Experience with C/C++.
• Experience with REST and gRPC.
• Experience with Docker/Podman Containers.
• Gitlab usage and pipeline creation.

Work Environment

This role offers a hybrid work environment, requiring three days per week on-site in Ottawa. You will join one of the top employers in North America, an industry leader in the defense and security sector. This position provides a unique opportunity to start a new project from the ground up.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr.
