We at Actalent Services are a fast-growing engineering consulting group which expanded to Canada in 2014. A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations focused on Infrastructure and Utilities projects. To support this growth, we have opened an Electrical Engineering Co-op (4 to 8 month co-op, with opportunity for a full-time position once graduated). The selected individual will be a part of our Utilities Division based out of New Westminster, BC. During your co-op work term, you will be part of a team delivering BC Hydro substation engineering projects.

Key activities include liaising with project stakeholders, completing project designs and performing quality assurance functions.

This role required Drug and Alcohol screening as a pre-employment requirement.

This position will be Hybrid work model. Our New Westminster, BC office is located 1 minute from the New Westminster Station Skytrain. NOTE: there will be times when you may be asked to be in office 5 days a week.

Responsibilities

• Conduct project site visits throughout BC to gather information on existing conditions, which may require travel and overnight stays.
• Coordinate and obtain input from project stakeholders, including cities, municipalities, and utilities.
• Interface and assist team members, team leads, and managers.
• Assist in project support activities such as documentation control, photo organization, project coordination, and client support.
• Prepare layouts, conceptual designs, and calculations.
• Conduct research and analysis related to substation engineering projects, including equipment specifications and industry standards.
• Support the preparation of presentations and project proposals for clients.
• Help maintain project schedules and track deliverables to ensure timely completion.
• Participate in team meetings and provide updates on project tasks and progress.
• Learn and apply company standards and best practices related to substation design and engineering.

Essential Skills

• Enrollment in an electrical engineering program at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
• Current GPA of 75% or higher.
• Completion of at least 2 years of a 4-year engineering program.
• Strong communication skills, motivation, and results orientation.
• A valid Class 5 driver's license.
• Willingness to travel within BC up to 20% of the time.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Past co-op/work term experience within an electrical infrastructure/utility environment is considered an asset.
• Past field experience is an asset.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, substation design, substation layout, P&C, layout design, and field engineering.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of New Westminster, BC.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00/hr.

Workplace Type: This is a hybrid position in New Westminster, BC.
