Electrical Engineer

The Electrical Engineer serves as the electrical subject-matter expert within a multidisciplinary engineering team composed primarily of Mechanical Engineers. This role provides deep electrical expertise, supports cross-functional design efforts, and ensures that electrical considerations are fully integrated into product development. This position is hands-on, highly collaborative, and central to maintaining electrical engineering excellence within an organization where electrical expertise is limited.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary electrical engineering resource for a multidisciplinary engineering team, providing expert input during design discussions, design reviews, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Guide Mechanical Engineers on electrical design considerations to ensure proper integration within electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Provide level technical insight to support sound engineering decisions across multiple programs.
  • Review customer and program requirements to determine electrical feasibility, identify risks, and recommend alternative technical approaches.
  • Support quoting and early-stage design efforts by validating assumptions and identifying potential electrical challenges.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership and program teams to ensure requirements are clearly understood and aligned with product capabilities.
  • Lead the development of electrical designs, including circuits, PCBs, flex circuits, wiring, and test fixtures.
  • Apply advanced electrical theory (signal integrity, transmission line behavior, power analysis) to ensure robust and reliable designs.
  • Evaluate existing products and platforms to determine adaptability for new applications or requirements.
  • Ensure electrical requirements are fully integrated into mechanical designs and manufacturing processes.
  • Develop Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), Design Validation Test (DVT), and qualification test procedures that verify customer and program requirements.
  • Support test execution and assist test personnel in troubleshooting and interpreting results using advanced test and measurement equipment.
  • Generate and maintain accurate engineering documentation, including schematics, bills of materials, compliance matrices, and technical reports.
  • Lead research and development activities to enhance existing products or develop new capabilities based on customer needs and emerging technologies.
  • Serve as a technical resource when complex issues arise during design, build, or test phases.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for complex electrical or system-level issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve products, processes, and test methodologies.
  • Provide electrical engineering support to Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and other internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Support production builds, installation activities, and operational testing to ensure conformance to specifications and applicable standards.
  • Assist in evaluating manufacturing processes and identifying opportunities to improve reliability and quality.

Essential Skills

  • 10+ years of electrical design experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles, processes, and best practices.
  • Strong hands-on electrical troubleshooting skills with basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency with test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes and network analyzers.
  • Understanding of power, analog, and digital circuits, including serial communication protocols (e.g., RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, Ethernet).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in regulated environments.

Work Environment

The work environment is collaborative and multidisciplinary, involving close interaction with Mechanical Engineers and other stakeholders. The role requires hands-on engagement and may involve working with advanced test and measurement equipment in a regulated setting.
