Mechanical Director
We are seeking a forward-thinking, technically accomplished, and highly communicative Mechanical Director to lead our mechanical engineering practice across mission-critical and large-scale infrastructure projects. This role will oversee the strategic development, technical delivery, and operational excellence of all mechanical engineering services, ensuring the successful integration of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems into world-class facilities.
Employees can work 100% remote unless local to Phoenix, AZ or Austin, TX, where a hybrid work schedule is available. The brand-new office in AZ, located on Tempe Town Lake, offers a hotel-like feel. We are approved to place individuals in states including AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IN, MI, MO, NV, OK, SC, TX, WA, WV, or UT. Candidates in NY, CA, CO, NJ, WY need to be willing to relocate.
This role involves working on a variety of high-profile construction projects including data centers, industrial buildings, and offices.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Mechanical Division by setting the vision, standards, and priorities for mechanical engineering services across diverse project types and geographies.
- Oversee Mechanical Design Operations by managing engineering teams, project managers, and technical staff to deliver high-quality designs on schedule and within budget.
- Ensure Technical Excellence by providing high-level oversight of system design, calculations, specifications, and reviews for HVAC, piping, plumbing, fire protection, and energy systems.
- Drive Design Quality and Consistency by developing and implementing design standards, QA/QC processes, and technical guidelines to ensure consistent, code-compliant engineering solutions.
- Collaborate in Pre-Construction & Design Phases by partnering with internal disciplines and external stakeholders early in the design process to integrate mechanical solutions into overall project strategies.
- Represent Mechanical Engineering with Clients and Partners by serving as the executive point of contact for the mechanical scope, fostering trusted relationships with clients, contractors, and facility owners.
- Lead and Mentor Teams by developing and mentoring mechanical engineers and designers, ensuring scalable delivery capacity and succession planning.
- Monitor Performance & Profitability by establishing KPIs and reporting systems for project quality, efficiency, resource allocation, and client satisfaction.
- Innovate & Improve by identifying opportunities for design innovation, energy efficiency, and sustainability in system solutions; staying ahead of emerging codes, standards, and technologies.
- Ensure Compliance and Safety by maintaining adherence to applicable codes, industry standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, local codes), and client protocols while promoting a strong safety and quality culture across teams.
Essential Skills
- Mechanical engineering expertise in HVAC and liquid cooling systems.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
- Experience with mission-critical projects.
- In-depth knowledge of ASHRAE standards and building codes.
- Active PE License with experience stamping as engineer of record.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering, including 12 years of data center MEP or mission-critical facilities experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- LEED AP BD+C certification.
- Experience with building and scaling engineering teams across markets and regions.
- Experience working independently, managing priorities, and providing mentorship to junior staff.
- Experience reviewing and stamping designs, calculations, and technical documentation.
Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $220000.00 - $245000.00/yr. 100% premiums paid for medical, dental, vision for employee + family 4% 401(k) match 32 days off - holiday, PTO, and sick time annual professional development budgets for licensure and certifications.
