Design Release Engineer - Wiring

As a Design Release Engineer specializing in Wiring, you will manage the Design Verification Plan (DVP) according to GPDS VPP timing, including milestone identification and test classification. You will play a crucial role in generating DVP with inputs from Design and Release engineers and lead DV testing activities with suppliers. This position requires you to track closure of DVs, support program documentation, and confirm technical design reviews. You will also handle part ordering, raise issues in client systems, support VOME SCCAF creation, and review durability testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage DVP as per GPDS VPP timing including milestone identification and test classification.
  • Confirm component and System CAE Electrical and Mechanical IPS are complete as part of DV audits.
  • Generate DVP with inputs from Design and Release engineers.
  • Lead DV testing activities with suppliers EDS, plastics, metal brackets, etc.
  • Perform engineering cost estimates for physical test plans.
  • Track closure of DVs as per DVP and ensure TDRs occur with supplier meetings.
  • Support Chief Attestation sign-off reviews and confirm eCAR matrix assessment is done.
  • Ensure HCA harness complexity analysis is executed and stored at WERS.
  • Lead part ordering through RPS for DVP validation and sign-off.
  • Raise issues in client systems as per DVP review of non-compliant DVs.
  • Support creation and upkeep of VOME SCCAF and supplier SCCAF DFMEA.
  • Review Change Point Analysis Worksheet (CPAW).
  • Conduct durability/VOCF vehicle testing review with DRs.
  • Support on-site evaluations in manufacturing and assembly plants.
  • Conduct quality history reviews and track fix implementation.
  • Attend PRA/PAC forum and lead 3L5W Detection leg.
  • Apply six sigma and 8D methodologies.

Essential Skills:

  • 5-10 years of wiring harness design and vehicle launch experience.
  • Basic 3D CAD knowledge, preferably 3DX.
  • Understanding of automotive PPAP process.
  • Knowledge of feature partitioning.
  • Solid automotive engineering knowledge, especially in wiring harness design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics is desired.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Time and project management skills.
  • Experience in wiring harness manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing quality documentation such as PFMEA, control plans, and line flow charts.
  • Component testing experience in bench/dyno/vehicle settings.
  • Working knowledge of commercially available AI tools and resources.

Work Environment:

This role requires working 4 days a week on-site. The work environment involves collaboration with design and release engineers, suppliers, and the quality assurance team. You will be engaged in diverse tasks from design verification to on-site evaluations at manufacturing and assembly plants. The position demands effective use of office technology and coordination across various teams to ensure project success.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $51.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
