Design Engineer

The Design Engineer will take ownership of tooling design and project management activities, working with strong support and guidance from experienced leadership. This role focuses on creating and refining 3D tool designs using Catia V5, coordinating closely with manufacturing teams, and supporting quality and customer requirements within an aerospace-focused environment. Responsibilities

  • Review customer requirements and translate them into complete 3D modeled tool designs and detailed tool prints using Catia V5.
  • Create, manage, and release comprehensive 3D and 2D data packages to the shop floor for manufacturing.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing work teams on new project releases, ensuring smooth handoff from design to production.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to resolve manufacturing issues and implement effective design improvements.
  • Review and modify customer-provided tool designs to optimize material usage and improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Select materials and identify subcontracting vendors, preparing and submitting purchase requisitions as needed.
  • Plan, manage, and lead customer design review meetings, providing clear status updates and professional correspondence.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with customers to clarify requirements, address concerns, and support project success.
  • Assist the quality team with AS9100D documentation requirements and provide support during audits.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to understand concerns, gain cooperation, and solve problems quickly and effectively.
  • Contribute as a versatile team member, supporting various tasks and initiatives that drive company success.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Plastics Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Strong aptitude for 3D modeling and the ability to create creative static and mechanical designs.
  • Proficiency or willingness to learn Catia V5 for 3D modeling and tool design, with training support available.
  • Excellent print reading skills and strong mechanical visualization abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues across departments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to understand concerns and gain cooperation to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Efficient and productive time management, with a strong work ethic and reliable attendance.
  • Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills, especially when working with manufacturing staff and customers.
  • Motivation to act as a versatile team member who actively contributes to company success in multiple ways.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience or education related to mechanical design in aerospace applications.
  • Background or interest in plastics engineering and composite materials.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems used in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, inspection, and assembly.
  • Exposure to or experience with AS9100D quality system requirements and audit support.
  • Demonstrated interest in long-term professional growth and advancement within an engineering and manufacturing setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Winfield, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $45.00/hr.
