Design Engineer
This position involves the development and validation of cooling components in line with NPI and APQP processes to enhance the performance, reliability, durability, and cost-effectiveness of both new and existing products. The role focuses on engine-mounted cooling components and supports Electrified (EV), Diesel, and Natural gas engines. The position requires interaction with simulation teams, global purchasing, suppliers, and internal customers, with occasional travel to supplier sites and a Lafayette, IN facility. The team mainly works with components purchased finished from suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Develop and validate engine-mounted cooling components.
- Resolve current product issues and coordinate supplier-related activities.
- Create technical specifications and conduct design FMEA's.
- Develop component DVP&R's and present formal design reviews.
- Procure prove design hardware and coordinate validation testing and analysis activities.
- Engage in cost reduction activities and release drawings and solid models.
- Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD) activities.
- Communicate effectively with engineering team members, suppliers, and customers.
- Adhere to established standards and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, and ergonomics.
Essential Skills
- Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Agricultural Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in component design and validation.
- Working knowledge of NPI and APQP processes.
- Experience with supplier CPPD.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency with internal systems and tools.
- Expertise in heat transfer and heat exchanger supplier knowledge.
- Strong academic experience in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mechanics of materials.
- Knowledge in mechanical fatigue and experimental stress analysis.
- FEA (Finite Element Analysis) knowledge.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment
The work environment is an office setting with building air conditioning. There is less than 10% travel involved, primarily to the Lafayette, IN facility and some supplier sites.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $46.00/hr.
