Controls Engineer

We are seeking a hands-on innovator who thrives at the intersection of automation, electronics, and problem-solving. In this role, you will be the driving force behind designing, programming, and commissioning advanced electrical control systems that keep our operations running smoothly. You will partner closely with maintenance and engineering teams to tackle complex automation challenges and ensure our systems perform at their peak.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and commission PLC programs and automation systems that power our equipment and processes.
  • Build intuitive control interfaces and produce clear documentation, including functional diagrams, schematics, and training materials to support system reliability and safety.
  • Develop and maintain electrical schematics using AutoCAD, ensuring compliance with UL508A, OSHA, NFPA, and NEC standards.
  • Incorporate electrical safety best practices into every design, from overcurrent protection to grounding and insulation.
  • Collaborate with maintenance personnel, providing troubleshooting expertise and training on electronic control systems.
  • Keep up with emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to enhance system performance.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate electrical and hydraulic prints for all plant equipment and monitor compliance with OSHA electrical codes.
  • Analyze, locate, and repair malfunctions in complex control systems, including solid-state, analog, and digital.

Essential Skills

  • Expertise in PLC programming, including ladder logic, structured text, and function blocks using Siemens, Codesys, and Rockwell (Studio 5000).
  • Experience with HMI development using Parker, AB PanelView, and B&R automation interfaces.
  • Proficiency in 6-axis robot programming (ABB, Yaskawa, Fanuc), servo systems, VFDs, and PID tuning.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, TCP/IP, RS-232/485, and OPC servers.
  • Ability to design and build UL508A-compliant control panels and wiring for AC/DC circuits.
  • Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and related instrumentation diagrams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with designing smart interfaces and documentation.
  • Capability to own and develop electrical design standards.
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining electrical schematics using AutoCAD.
  • Commitment to championing safety and reliability in all designs.

Job Type & Location

This is a contract to hire position based out of Greeneville, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $100000.00/hr.
