Controls Engineer

We are seeking a dedicated Controls Engineer for a 9-month contract-to-hire position with a custom machine builder. This strategic hire will transition to a direct role after the contract period. Ideal candidates should have over 3 years of Siemens TIA experience. We are open to candidates with less experience who are eager to learn and grow alongside our team. The role requires proficiency in reading and editing electrical schematics using AutoCAD, although experience with ePlan is beneficial and can be acquired on the job. Experience with custom machine building or integration is highly preferred, though material handling from the ground up is also acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team of 8 controls engineers, focusing primarily on software.
  • Engage with the hardware team and participate in long-term integration goals.
  • Travel approximately 20% of the time to support projects, primarily in South Carolina, with occasional trips to Mexico and Canada.
  • Work independently and as part of a team during travel assignments.
  • Utilize rented cars for travel or fly as needed, with reimbursement for mileage if personal cars are used.
  • Participate in a flexible work schedule, starting at 7:30 AM with the possibility of remote work under special circumstances.
  • Commit to an average 45-hour work week, with potential increases during peak periods.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in Siemens PLC programming from scratch.
  • Ability to read and edit schematics/prints in ePlan, with AutoCAD experience being transferable.
  • Experience in custom machine building and integration.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs from scratch.
  • Familiarity with Ignition software.
  • Experience with Fanuc and ABB robots.
  • Previous work in material handling is beneficial.

Our new facility offers a collaborative environment with a large, clean shop floor. When traveling, you may experience different work sites in industries such as food and beverage or automotive. This role provides opportunities for training and the chance to work additional hours to increase earnings.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Comstock Park, Michigan.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
