Controls Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Controls Engineer to support both immediate staffing needs and long-term growth in our engineering team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, industrial environment and enjoys a balance of fieldwork and office-based engineering tasks. You'll be part of a collaborative team responsible for designing, troubleshooting, and supporting complex automation systems used in heavy industrial applications.
Responsibilities
- Travel to customer sites (approximately one week per month, primarily within the U.S.) to diagnose and resolve control system issues.
- Work directly with customers to identify problems, interpret schematics, and implement solutions.
- Modify and troubleshoot PLC code, primarily using Siemens and other platforms.
- Develop and modify electrical schematics and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD.
- Collaborate with the electrical shop to build and test control panels and systems.
- Assist in the design and integration of automation systems for large industrial equipment.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, project managers, and field technicians.
- Communicate effectively with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Provide technical support and documentation for ongoing and completed projects.
Essential Skills
- Strong understanding of industrial automation and control systems.
- Experience with PLCs (Siemens, Omron preferred) for troubleshooting and code modification.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical schematics and point-to-point wiring diagrams.
- Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings and identify potential issues.
- Comfortable working in industrial environments.
- Willingness to travel domestically for field service and commissioning work.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work well with customers and team members.
- Self-motivated and adaptable to changing priorities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in industries such as municipal waste, recycling, food processing, or other heavy industrial sectors.
- Experience working with large equipment and automation systems.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is a plus, but not required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilsonville, Oregon.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
