CNC Programmer/Tooling Engineer

We are seeking an NC Programmer Tooling Engineer who will play a crucial role in analyzing drawings, sketches, and design data to determine the dimensions and configurations of cuts, as well as selecting cutting tools and machine speeds and feed rates. The successful candidate will create and evaluate tool designs, coordinate with engineering for changes, and manufacture machine holding fixtures for parts. This role involves computing dimensions, preparing geometric layouts using Mastercam software, and writing programs for multi-axis CNC milling and lathe machines.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze drawings, sketches, and design data to determine dimensions and configurations of cuts.
  • Create and evaluate tool designs and coordinate with engineering for changes.
  • Analyze, design, and manufacture machine holding fixtures for parts.
  • Compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outline sequence of operations required to machine parts.
  • Prepare geometric layouts using Mastercam software to show location of reference points and direction of cutting paths.
  • Write instruction sheets, check sheets, and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machines.
  • Write programs for multi-axis CNC milling and lathe machines.
  • Compare computer printouts with original program sheets to assure accuracy of machine instructions.
  • Revise programs to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
  • Observe operation of programs using NC plot software to prove out tool paths.
  • Train and mentor operators for evaluating and resolving process issues.
  • Resolve CNC program and associated manufacturing issues with all relevant departments.
  • Initiate continuous improvement ideas, set-up time, and cycle-times improvements.
  • Write standard operations instructions effectively.
  • Set-up and operate all CNC machines in the facility.
  • Handle and manage hazardous waste generated in the work area responsibly.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient knowledge of Mastercam and Solid Works.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to manage numerous projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Meticulous work habits and attention to detail.
  • Proficient use of shop math skills, including addition, subtraction, and trigonometry.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of related experience or training.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • Three years of machining background required.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a good memory for detail.
  • Pleasant personality and ability to interact with all levels of personnel.
  • Team-oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.
  • Expertise in working independently without supervision.
  • Proficient use of new screens, reports, functions, and simple software programs with assistance.

Work Environment

The work environment involves collaborating with the manufacturing floor, working in the office for design, and returning to the floor to ensure tooling is working. The team is small in the office but larger on the manufacturing floor, fostering a tight-knit, family-like atmosphere. Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility if necessary. Overtime and weekend work may be required to support manufacturing.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $87000.00/yr. Health, dental, vision, 401K
