Chief Engineer
The Chief Engineer directs and coordinates the work of employees involved in the repair, maintenance, and installation of machinery, tools, and equipment. This role also involves overseeing the maintenance of buildings and grounds, ensuring compliance with safety rules and company policies, and setting a positive example for safety leadership.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preventive maintenance program, including its development, scheduling, and completion.
- Review and prioritize work orders to ensure timely and effective completion.
- Develop and manage the annual repair and maintenance budget, including monthly performance tracking.
- Lead capital projects from start to finish, including bid collection, capital request submissions, project tracking, and completion timelines.
- Maintain the maintenance shop, parts storage, and support equipment areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Coordinate repair, maintenance, and installation activities to ensure minimal disruption to production operations.
- Oversee maintenance of utility systems to provide consistent and safe delivery of heat, steam, power, gas, and compressed air.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to maintenance, reliability, and equipment optimization.
- Actively support waste reduction efforts, including decreasing machine downtime and improving throughput.
- Facilitate cross-shift and departmental communication through shift handoffs, in-person pass-downs, and routine shift meetings.
- Requisition necessary tools, equipment, and supplies to support operational needs.
- Participate in plant and operational performance reviews and metric-driven evaluations.
- Be available on-call to respond to maintenance emergencies during off-shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Essential Skills:
- Mechanical and electrical skills
- Experience with CMMS systems and preventive maintenance programs
- Capital project management
- Supervisory skills with a minimum of 6 years of leadership experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent; Technical or College Degree Preferred
- Minimum 8 years of experience in maintenance, equipment repair, or a related field
- NH3 (Ammonia) refrigeration and wastewater pretreatment experience preferred
Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
