Automation Controls Engineer

As an Automation Controls Engineer, you will design and develop control systems for custom automated assembly and test equipment, leading the software design and development process from concept through customer acceptance. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and a high-tech customer base to deliver industry-leading solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop structured, modular, and well-documented ladder logic for Allen-Bradley PLCs, prioritizing quality, maintainability, and long-term system reliability.
• Develop intuitive and efficient operator interfaces using Allen-Bradley FactoryTalk and Inductive Automation's Ignition platforms.
• Program, simulate, and deploy Fanuc robots to perform complex automation tasks
• Develop and integrate advanced machine vision solutions using Keyence, Cognex In-Sight, and Cognex VisionPro technologies for inspection, alignment, and guidance applications.
• Lead the commissioning and debugging of prototype systems incorporating diverse automation technologies including motion control, robotics, I/O, HMIs, lasers, conveyors, feeders, and precision process systems.
• Support validation, final acceptance, and global deployment of automation systems, providing occasional long-term remote and onsite support to ensure successful integration and operation at customer facilities.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a Controls or Robotics Engineer, working with automation or electromechanical systems in industrial environments.
• Advanced skills in programming industrial control systems, including PLC programming with RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000, and HMI/GUI development with AB PanelView and Ignition.
• Proficient in industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Profinet, and safety-rated Fieldbus networks.
• Strong experience in multi-station PLC programming and system integration.
• Robotics programming experience across Cartesian, SCARA, and articulated systems with Fanuc, Denso, and ABB.
• Proficient with machine vision technologies including Cognex, Keyence, and Fanuc vision systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Strong understanding of electromechanical and mechatronic systems.
• Familiarity with electrical codes and industrial safety standards.

Work Environment

This role is on-site and requires direct collaboration with engineering and production teams. The work environment involves onsite design, CNC, and manufacturing processes, where you will engage in hands-on activities to create custom manufacturing equipment for cutting-edge products in a connected world.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chandler, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $110000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
