Coordinator, Harm Reduction Services Program

Under general supervision, the Harm Reduction Services Coordinator will be responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing harm reduction programs aimed at reducing the negative consequences associated with substance use and related behaviors. This role involves direct engagement with individuals and communities, collaboration with partner organizations, and management of program staff and volunteers. The coordinator ensures that services are accessible, culturally competent, and grounded in evidence-based practices. The Program Coordinator will work closely with community partners, stakeholders, and clients to promote public health, safety, and well-being.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily operations of harm reduction services, including syringe exchange programs, overdose prevention, and outreach initiatives
  • Oversee the delivery of client-centered services that are respectful, non-judgmental, and culturally sensitive
  • Ensure the provision of harm reduction supplies, education, and support to clients in a safe and accessible manner
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage with marginalized populations and address their specific needs
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and other stakeholders
  • Represent the program in community meetings, coalitions, and advocacy efforts to promote harm reduction principles
  • Collaborate with partners to expand service offerings and enhance community impact
  • Develop, coordinate, and evaluate harm reduction initiatives, including syringe exchange, overdose prevention, and outreach services
  • Provide support, education, and resources to individuals accessing harm reduction services, including referrals to healthcare, housing, and social services
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders, advocate for harm reduction policies, and facilitate partnerships with local organizations
  • Deliver training to staff, volunteers, and community members on harm reduction principles, overdose response, and safe practices
  • Maintain accurate records, monitor program outcomes, and prepare regular reports for funders and leadership
  • Oversee inventory and distribution of harm reduction supplies (e.g., naloxone, syringes, condoms)
  • Respond to client emergencies and coordinate with medical and emergency services as needed
  • Contribute to the creation and revision of organizational policies related to harm reduction and client safety
  • Oversee data collection, reporting, and analysis to track program outcomes and ensure compliance with funding requirements
  • Assist in the development and management of the program budget, ensuring efficient use of resources
  • Assist in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities to support program sustainability and growth
  • Operate standard office equipment and use required software applications
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Strong understanding of harm reduction principles, public health issues and the needs of people who use drugs
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based practices related to substance use disorders

Skill in:

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in data management, reporting, and analysis
  • Principles and practices of supervision
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making abilities
  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications for program area and other applications, including Microsoft Office

Ability to:

  • Commitment to advancing harm reduction and public health
  • Manage complex programs and work collaboratively with diverse teams and communities
  • Work flexible hours, as needed
  • Analyze data and evaluate program outcomes
  • Use data to inform program decisions, demonstrate program impact, and may secure funding
  • Advocate for harm reduction and educate others about its benefits

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's degree
  • Required Disciplines: Public health, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field
  • ~or~ At least 4-5 years' experience in harm reduction and any equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training approved by Human Resources

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Licenses/Certifications Required at Date of Hire: Valid Chauffeur's driver's license and access to dependable transportation

Working Conditions:

Hours: Normal business hours, some additional hours may be required

Travel Required: Occasional attendance at regional or national conferences, Local, in-state, travel, up to 10%

Working Environment: Combination of office work, community outreach, and field work may involve exposure to high-risk environments and individuals in crisis situations.
