EA3 Offshore Wind Farm WTG Commissioning Engineer

East Anglia THREE (EA3) is one of the largest offshore wind farms under construction in the UK, led by Iberdrola. The project involves the installation and commissioning of next-generation offshore wind turbine generators (WTGs), contributing significantly to the UK's renewable energy targets.

Role Overview

The WTG Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for the execution, supervision, and documentation of commissioning activities related to offshore wind turbine generators. The role requires hands-on technical expertise, strong coordination with OEMs and contractors, and strict adherence to HSE and quality standards in an offshore environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute and supervise commissioning activities for WTGs, including:
    • Pre-commissioning checks
    • Mechanical completion verification
    • Electrical energization and functional testing
    • SCADA and control system validation
  • Interface with OEM (turbine supplier), T&I contractors, and project stakeholders to ensure smooth handover from installation to commissioning
  • Review and validate:
    • Test procedures (ITP, commissioning protocols)
    • Punch lists and close-out documentation
    • As-built documentation
  • Support troubleshooting and fault-finding during commissioning phase
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Project specifications
    • Grid code requirements
    • HSE offshore standards
  • Participate in offshore campaigns:
    • WTG energization
    • First power / first rotation
    • Reliability runs
  • Report daily progress, risks, and technical issues to Commissioning Manager

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering
  • Minimum 3–5 years experience in:
    • Wind turbine commissioning (onshore/offshore)
    • Or similar HV / industrial commissioning environments
  • Proven experience with:
    • WTG systems (electrical, hydraulic, control)
    • SCADA systems
    • High Voltage (HV) operations (preferred)
  • Experience working offshore (highly desirable)

Certifications (Mandatory for Offshore)

  • GWO (BST + ART preferred)
  • BOSIET / FOET + CA-EBS
  • Offshore medical (OGUK or equivalent)
  • HUET
