Building Engineer
The Building Engineer is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable facility operations. This role performs preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems while supporting tenant needs and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00/hour
The pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position. A specific offer will vary based on the applicant's experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

Key Responsibilities:
Building Operations & Maintenance
- Operate, maintain, inspect, and repair building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, fire/life safety, and general building infrastructure
- Perform routine preventive maintenance in accordance with established schedules
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control system issues
- Monitor building management systems (BMS/BAS) and respond to alarms
Work Orders & Documentation
- Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner using a CMMS
- Maintain logs, inspection reports, and equipment records
- Assist with audits and regulatory inspections
Safety & Compliance
- Follow OSHA, EPA, and local code requirements
- Identify and correct safety hazards
- Properly handle chemicals, tools, and equipment
- Participate in safety meetings and training
Vendor & Team Support
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors as needed
- Escort vendors and monitor work for quality and safety compliance
- Support other engineering and facilities staff as assigned
Customer & Site Support
- Respond professionally to tenant and client requests
- Communicate equipment status, repairs, and service updates
- Support after-hours or emergency response as required
Qualifications:
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years of building engineering or facilities maintenance experience
- Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
- Ability to read blueprints, manuals, and technical documentation
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Preferred
- Technical or trade school training
- EPA Universal Certification
- HVAC, electrical, or other trade certifications/licenses
- Experience with CMMS and BAS systems
- Commercial or industrial building experience
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in mechanical spaces
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures
Work Environment
- Commercial office, industrial, healthcare, manufacturing, or mixed-use facilities
- May include mechanical rooms, rooftops, and active workspaces
