ABB Smart Power Manufacturing Manager

At ABB, we help industries outrun - leaner and cleaner. Here, progress is an expectation - for you, your team, and the world. As a global market leader, we'll give you what you need to make it happen. It won't always be easy, growing takes grit. But at ABB, you'll never run alone. Run what runs the world.

This position reports to: Global Manufacturing Manager

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will shape the future of our manufacturing capabilities, optimizing assembly methods, processes, and equipment to achieve excellence in safety, quality, cost, and efficiency. You will be a key contributor throughout the entire industrialization cycle — from R&D handover to full lifecycle management — ensuring that the new product introduction (NPI) is robust, reliable, and ready for scalable production. This includes defining manufacturing phases, validating methods and deliverables (e.g., DFMEA, validation protocols), and providing hands-on support during equipment and process start-up.

You will also join a newly created, agile, and high-performing cross-functional team driving the strategic development of our next-generation products. In this role, you will work closely with global stakeholders and report directly to the Global Manufacturing Manager for Critical Power, bringing your expertise to projects that will shape the evolution of our technology and business.

You Will Be Mainly Responsible For

  • Defining and optimizing the working phase sequence for new or updated production processes, ensuring alignment with cost targets and investment budgets. Additionally, you will be ensuring that production methods, cycle times, equipment performance, and materials are supporting operational targets and manufacturing scalability.
  • Approving process designs generated internally or externally and validating them against project expectations. As well as evaluating, testing, and introducing new process technologies that boost productivity, quality, and cost competitiveness.
  • Collaborating closely with R&D to guarantee industrialization readiness and transfer new products to Operations with complete, accurate documentation (e.g., BoM, WI, manuals).
  • Validating technical deliverables throughout development (e.g., protocols, DFMEA) and ensure robust solutions across product lifecycle updates. Furthermore, you will be managing product variants and customization requests in accordance with ABB governance, ensuring customer satisfaction in lead-time, quality, and performance.

Qualifications for the Role

  • Bachelor (FH) / Technical (HF) degree in Electronics
  • 8+ years of experience in a similar role in the electrical equipment or power electronics industry (ABB experience in a similar function in the electrical equipment business of at least 2 years is required).
  • Proven expertise in DFMEA, product development processes, and validation methods.
  • Strong knowledge of power electronics and power conversion; familiarity with frequency converter technologies.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing technologies; proficiency with MS Office and 2D/3D CAD tools.
  • Knowledge of PPAP is appreciated.
  • Fluent in English; Italian is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving attitude, attention to detail, teamwork, and ownership mindset; able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
