Senior Electronics Design Engineer

At ABB, we help industries run leaner and cleaner—and every person here makes that happen. You'll be empowered to lead, supported to grow, and proud of the impact we create together. Join us and help run what runs the world.

This position reports to: R&D Team Lead

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Senior Electronics Design Engineer to take ownership of the electrical and electronics-related R&D activities within our product development team.

In this role, you will be the team's go-to expert in electronics, working alongside embedded software developers, mechanical engineers, and specialists in algorithms and measurement technology. You will work across a broad spectrum of technologies—from RF and ultrasonic systems to our in-house hardware platforms—and contribute to both new development and product maintenance. A key focus will be ensuring long-term producibility and robustness in both existing and new development.

To succeed here, you should be curious, open-minded, and comfortable moving between theory and hands-on engineering. You enjoy exploring new technical areas, challenging your own assumptions, and driving pragmatic, well-tested solutions all the way to market.

Responsibilities

  • Design, layout, and board bring-up of new PCBs—from component selection to functional prototypes.
  • Update, maintain and improve on existing PCBs and other components (e.g. sensors, pumps, motors) to ensure long-term producibility of our products.
  • Troubleshoot electromechanical systems at system level, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead within electrical safety, ensuring compliance with relevant standards (LVD, MD, EMC).
  • Create cable drawings and build prototype cables for testing and validation.
  • Act as 4th-line support for hardware issues escalated from customers or internal teams.

Your background

  • 6+ years of experience in PCB design and layout within product development (10+ years is meritorious).
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills of electromechanical systems.
  • A solid understanding of electrical safety and compliance, with experience working with both the Machinery Directive, Low Voltage Directive and EMC Directive, respectively.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools for electronics design, preferably OrCad.
  • Experience with RF components or RF-related design is a plus.
