Production Development Engineer

At ABB, we help industries run leaner and cleaner—and every person here makes that happen. You'll be empowered to lead, supported to grow, and proud of the impact we create together. Join us and help run what runs the world.

This position reports to: Operations Manager

Your role and responsibilities

ABB's Drive Products Division is establishing a new, modern Regional Distribution Center (RDC) in Genk, Belgium. The RDC will operate in close collaboration with a 3rd Party Logistics (3PL) partner, and we are now looking for a Production Development Engineer to support our new location.

In this role, you will drive operational excellence by developing, optimizing, and standardizing processes across production, logistics, and supporting functions. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders as well as our 3PL partner to secure smooth end-to-end flows and to support the implementation of new tools, methodologies, and best practices.

You will play an essential role in the continuous development of our order-to-delivery processes and in strengthening the performance and efficiency of the RDC.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Identifying improvement opportunities across operational processes (production, material flow, warehousing, inbound and outbound logistics) and leading development initiatives from concept to implementation.
  • Supporting change management activities, including training, communication, and enabling successful adoption of new processes, systems, and tools.
  • Analyzing current performance, mapping existing processes, and designing future-state workflows aimed at reducing waste, increasing efficiency, and improving throughput.
  • Tracking, analyzing, and visualizing operational KPIs—including delivery performance, lead time, inventory accuracy, productivity, and safety metrics—to support data-driven decision making.
  • Translating operational data and insights into clear, actionable improvement plans that help strengthen daily execution.
  • Contributing to the implementation, optimization, and continuous development of operational systems (e.g., ERP, MES, WMS) to ensure that processes and data flows support evolving business needs.

Qualifications for the role

  • A relevant degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or a similar field. Equivalent experience demonstrating expertise is equally valued.
  • Proven experience in operations development, process engineering, industrial engineering, continuous improvement, or a similar role.
  • Solid understanding of Lean principles and structured problem-solving methods; Six Sigma certification is considered an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to work effectively with operational data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities.
  • Hands-on experience with process mapping, developing standard work, and supporting KPI-driven performance management.
  • Experience working with operational systems such as ERP, MES, or WMS; proficiency with Excel, Power BI, or similar analytical tools is an advantage.
  • Fluent written and spoken English; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.

What you get in return?

  • Attractive salary package
  • Meal vouchers, expense reimbursement
  • 32 paid vacation days (20 legal + 12 ADV)
  • Comprehensive hospitalization, group, and pension insurance
