Field Service Engineer

At ABB, we help industries outrun - leaner and cleaner. Here, progress is an expectation - for you, your team, and the world. As a global market leader, we'll give you what you need to make it happen. It won't always be easy, growing takes grit. But at ABB, you'll never run alone. Run what runs the world.

This position reports to:

Field Service Manager

We are looking to strengthen our service team in Bergen and are seeking a:

Field Service Engineer

As a service engineer with us, you will be part of a team of professional specialists responsible for all service activities in ABB Electrification Norway AS. Activities include, but are not limited to, testing, installation, commissioning, spare parts sales, consulting, product training, maintenance, modification, repair, upgrade, and post-installation.

Customers are located both in Norway and the rest of the world, and our main markets are Oil & Gas, Marine, Offshore, Industry, Power Generation, Infrastructure, and Everk. Our main products are low-voltage panels, medium-voltage panels, protections, circuit breakers, and UPS systems.

This specific position will be with Electrification Service in Bergen. Here we are a team with high competence in many areas, especially within relevant technology. We work as a team, although we often travel on individual missions. Training will be provided if your experience is not focused on protection and test equipment.

The working days with us are very varied. Some work takes place in the office in the form of engineering and preparations, while most of the work will be done on the customer's site.

On-site, you will be responsible for starting up larger electrical systems that include everything from mechanical and electrical checks to testing communication and verifying protection functions. To verify protection functions, you will need to be able to simulate various fault situations in the network with a current and voltage generator. Then, your electrical power knowledge will come into play, and you must have control over currents and voltages, in all sizes and directions.

In this position, you will be able to participate in many exciting things, such as commissioning oil platforms, large transformer and power stations, and industrial plants. We can offer interesting and exciting challenges and, above all, competence development within the categories we work under.

Check out the following keywords on YouTube or Google: ABB REX640, ABB REX615, ABB UNIGEAR, ABB ZX.

Omicron test equipment we use also has many good videos. Check out CMC356, CIBANO500, and CPC100.

We will also strengthen our engineering department, so if you do not have as much opportunity to travel but have good electrical power competence, we are interested in hearing from you anyway.

The position involves extensive travel.

Candidates should have good knowledge in at least two of the following fields:

  • Electrical power systems
  • Low- and/or medium-voltage panels
  • Circuit breakers for low- and/or medium-voltage
  • Electronic protections
  • Power electronics
  • Industrial data communication protocols

Desired qualifications:

  • Trade certificate as an electrician, energy technician, or panel technician
  • Experience as a service engineer in marine, offshore, or industry is an advantage
  • Driver's license, minimum class B
  • Ability to communicate fluently in Norwegian and English, both written and verbally

The ideal candidates have:

  • A uncompromising attitude towards HMS and always put electrical safety first
  • Flexibility regarding travel
  • The ability to get into technical problems and solve them quickly
  • Good communication skills, both with customers, colleagues, and superiors
  • A proactive attitude - working effectively and taking responsibility
  • The ability to work structured and systematic - both alone and as part of a team
  • A genuine interest in electrical engineering

We can offer:

  • Training, certification, personal development, and career opportunities
  • A positive and exciting work environment with good relationships between employees and leaders
  • Varied and challenging tasks
  • Competitive terms
  • Flexible working hours
