This position reports to:

Field Service Manager

This role is responsible for the commissioning and maintenance of Azipod® propulsion control and monitoring systems on shipyards. Shipyards are mainly located in Europe, so the role does not require continuous presence in Helsinki.

As a commissioning engineer, you will be responsible for the commissioning of ABB's Azipod® propulsion control and monitoring systems. You will report to the Field Service Manager and work as part of the commissioning team on the shipyard. You will ensure that the commissioning activities are carried out effectively according to customer requirements, standards, and safety regulations.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to participate in ABB's maritime business and develop as an expert in ABB products and systems as part of a cleaner and smarter maritime future. We will develop your ABB expertise through our extensive course and training offerings.

Your responsibilities:

  • Commissioning processes for ABB's Azipod® propulsion control and monitoring systems
  • Testing systems in collaboration with classification societies, shipyards, and customers
  • Defining solutions based on business and customer needs
  • Reporting lessons learned and feedback processes for commissioning projects
  • Using and continuously improving processes and tools that ensure effective project implementation
  • Being ready to handle warranty and maintenance tasks

Your background:

  • Degree in electrical, automation, or other relevant technical field (DI or AMK)
  • Basic knowledge of electrical engineering and electrical installations
  • Basic knowledge of PLC programming and systems (e.g., ST/FBD)
  • Ability to work 150 days on business trips per year
  • Ability to work independently as part of the ABB team on the shipyard
  • Proactive safety, quality, and customer service attitude
  • Strong communication skills in both Finnish and English
  • Preferred: Experience in shipbuilding or commissioning projects for industrial plants/factories, familiarity with ABB maritime products and systems, and other language skills
